Job Description:

Job Summary

We are seeking a commercially driven and strategic Lead Category Buyer & Supply Manager to optimize category performance and supply chain execution across bp's retail network in Portugal.

This role is responsible for developing and delivering category strategies, managing supplier partnerships, driving pricing and promotional effectiveness, and influencing operational teams (Area Managers, Operations Specialists, and Franchisees) to maximize profitability and customer satisfaction.

The successful candidate will combine strong commercial acumen with analytical capability and cross-functional collaboration to deliver sustainable growth within the retail convenience portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Category Strategy & Commercial Performance

  • Develop and execute category strategies aligned with retail growth, margin, and customer objectives.
  • Manage pricing standards, price changes, and promotional activities to drive profitability.
  • Analyze sales data, customer trends, and market insights to identify opportunities and mitigate risks.
  • Support the implementation of new products, range reviews, and promotional campaigns across the retail network.
  • Monitor category KPIs and present performance insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders.

Procurement & Supplier Management

  • Lead end-to-end sourcing processes including supplier selection, negotiation, contracting, and performance management.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with key suppliers to ensure service levels, innovation, and cost optimization.
  • Drive negotiation planning and secure favorable commercial terms.
  • Resolve supplier and operational issues efficiently to minimize business disruption.

Operational Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Influence and collaborate closely with Area Managers, Operations Specialists, and Franchisees to ensure successful category execution in stores.
  • Provide commercial guidance and category expertise to support operational decision-making.
  • Support retail capability building through training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Act as a bridge between Commercial, Supply Chain, and Retail Operations to ensure seamless execution.

Continuous Improvement & Digital Enablement

  • Promote best practices in category management and supply chain efficiency.
  • Leverage digital tools and data visualization to enhance reporting and collaboration.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across procurement and retail teams.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience in retail category management, buying, or supply chain, preferably within Portugal.
  • Strong commercial mindset with a track record of delivering profitable growth.
  • Demonstrated negotiation and supplier management experience.
  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present data clearly.
  • Experience influencing cross-functional operational teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Customer-focused with deep understanding of retail market dynamics.
  • Experience in convenience retail is highly desirable.
