Fire Safety EngineerLocation: SomersetJob Type: ContractDuration: 12 months+Rate: £600 - £640 per day (Inside IR35)About the OpportunitySpencer Ogden are supporting a major UK infrastructure project in the recruitment of an experienced Fire Safety Engineer to join a high-performing site-based safety team.This is a critical role within a complex, multi-contractor construction environment, providing specialist fire safety engineering expertise during the construction and commissioning phases.The RoleThe Fire Safety Engineer will report to the Head of Site Environment, Fire Safety, Radiation Protection & Harbours and will be responsible for developing and implementing fire safety strategy, standards, and guidance across the project.Key responsibilities include:Determining and documenting construction fire safety strategiesDeveloping project-specific fire safety standards and management systemsRecommending and reviewing temporary fire safety solutions, including:Temporary compartmentationSmoke control systemsFire barriersFire water suppliesFire detection and alarm systemsReviewing contractor submissions as an informed clientAdvising Construction Leads and Project Managers on fire engineering strategySupporting building fire engineering strategy developmentLeading or supporting fire incident investigations, including fire scene investigationsLiaising with Regulators and Local Fire Authorities to ensure compliancePromoting a positive fire safety culture across a large contractor workforceSupporting continual improvement of fire safety arrangements and systemsExperience & QualificationsEssential:Demonstrable experience in fire safety within complex, multi-interface construction environmentsStrong understanding of UK fire safety legislation, standards and the ALARP principleKnowledge of BS 5839, BS 5266 and BS 9999Working knowledge of construction fire safety managementUnderstanding of process fire risk during construction and commissioningAwareness of DSEAR implicationsStrong report writing and communication skillsAbility to analyse complex fire safety challenges and implement practical solutionsDegree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent fire safety qualifications and experience)Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. Institute of Fire Engineers)Desirable:Regulatory enforcement experienceWhy Apply?Long-term contract on a nationally significant infrastructure programmeHigh-impact role within a complex, large-scale construction environmentCompetitive inside IR35 day rateOpportunity to influence fire safety strategy at project levelIf you are an experienced Fire Safety Engineer looking for your next contract opportunity, please apply with your CV outlining your relevant experience.
