What's the role

Shell Canada is seeking an Aviation Fleet and Operations Lead (internally known as a Fleet Manager).

Shell Aviation (SAV) is one of the leading suppliers of fuels, lubricants, and technical solutions in the aviation industry. On average, SAV refuels an aircraft every 20 seconds. SAV operates globally in over 60 countries and at several hundred airports, where it conducts aircraft refueling operations and manages bulk fuel storage.

In Canada, the scope of this role includes oversight of 26 Fixed Base Operators (FBOs), 20 bulk fuel storage facilities, and over 90 fueling vehicles. This position is part of the Operations organization within Shell Aviation. Working in Operations provides the opportunity to be part of a customer-facing business within Shell, while directly contributing to the industry's leading standards and supporting customers as their partner of choice.

This role is responsible for managing Canada's fleet of fueling vehicles, including design, procurement, maintenance, licensing, logistics, and insurance across locations nationwide. Key accountabilities include executing capital investments, managing budgets and contracts, overseeing projects, maintaining the integrity and reliability of assets, troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensuring adherence to Shell, industry, and regulatory standards.

Accountabilities:

  • Work in partnership with frontline operators, account managers, and supply, HSSE, compliance, Contracts and Procurement (CP) teams, to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-efficient fleet operations whilst adhering to Shell, regulatory and industry standards
  • Responsible for managing the allocated budget for the fleet of fuel vehicles
  • Manage scheduled and corrective maintenance program for the fleet of fuel vehicles, via 3rd party contractors. Occasionally performing hands on work, such as replacing filters and pumps
  • Responsible for overseeing the building of new fuel vehicles and retiring old fuel vehicles. Projects includes framing opportunities, developing Investment Proposals, cost estimates, developing designs and project scopes, managing construction and commissioning
  • Demonstrate visible safety leadership. Work jointly with HSSE and operations to uphold HSSE performance, including providing input in incident investigations
  • Responsible for initiating and authorizing high risk work permits such as confined space entry, hot work, lock out tag out, excavation, along with providing training to operators and contractors
  • Act as a Contract Holder through collaboration with CP to select contractors, lead Business Performance Review, and manage contracts
  • Manage administrative aspects of project and maintenance services, including invoices, purchase requisition, financial controls for projects
  • Manage administrative aspects of maintaining up-to-date equipment drawings/documentation and managing spare equipment
  • Responsible for fleet data acquisition and analysis, specifically performance and cost data to drive optimal Total Cost of Ownership
  • Responsible for distributing fuel vehicles to FBOs based on operational needs, and for managing fuel vehicle transportation, provincial licenses and insurances
  • Coach and mentor less experienced and new colleagues, operators and contractors


What you bring

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Must have a High School Diploma with completion of Heavy Equipment Technician program
  • At least 5 years of experience in aviation fuel industry
  • Red Seal certification in Heavy Equipment Technician and/or Weights and Measure certification is a plus
  • Experience in the design of aviation fueling vehicles, fleet management, and/or EV/Hybrid vehicle technology is a plus
  • Must have experience in any of the following: pump operations, filter operations, additive systems, hydraulic systems, PLC systems, pressure control systems, IQ registers, and/or high‑level shutdowns
  • Sound understanding of any of the following legislated regulations: Environment Canada, Measurement Canada, American Petroleum Institute (API), Transport Canada, Energy Institute (EI), and/or Joint Inspection Group (JIG)
  • Demonstrated track record in people management and HSSE leadership skills as this role entails indirect supervision of frontline operators and contractors
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities and to troubleshoot vehicle issues over the phone with operators and contractors
  • Proven leadership, interpersonal, influence, and negotiating skills
  • Ability to work effectively remotely and virtually while managing 60%-70% business travel and providing 24/7 operational support, including responding to emergency and/or operational issues on weekends and holidays

The base salary range for this position is $112,000 - $162,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
