Established as a joint venture between Shell, Mitsubishi, PETRONAS and Sarawak State, Shell MDS (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. operates the Shell Middle Distillate Synthesis plant, producing a broad range of synthetic waxes, specialty chemicals, clean fuels, and other GTL‑derived products. The company's output is valued globally for its exceptional purity, low sulfur content, and environmentally friendly characteristics.
Since beginning operations in 1993, the Bintulu plant has maintained a reputation as a pioneer in GTL technology, supported by advanced process control systems, strong safety performance, and a highly skilled Malaysian workforce. Shell MDS products serve diverse industries worldwide-including cosmetics, lubricants, coatings, candles, textiles, and specialty industrial applications.
In addition to its manufacturing leadership, Shell MDS continues to innovate, recently marking milestones such as the global launch of GTL microcrystalline waxes and expanding GTL applications in sectors such as personal care and even emerging food technologies

Job Description:
1. Where you fit
- As an HSSE Intern, you will be part of the Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) team, supporting the business in maintaining a safe, compliant, and risk‑aware operating environment. You will work closely with HSSE leads and advisor, operational teams, and contractors to help strengthen safety culture, support compliance activities, and contribute to ongoing HSSE improvement initiatives within the organization.
2. What's the role?
The HSSE Intern plays a supporting role in day‑to‑day HSSE operations. Key focus areas typically include:
- Assisting with HSSE data collection, tracking, and reporting.
- Supporting incident investigations by gathering information and preparing documentation.
- Participating in workplace inspections, risk assessments, and hazard identification activities.
- Assisting in the development of HSSE materials-such as safety briefings, training content, and awareness campaigns.
- Helping ensure compliance with company HSSE policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Supporting HSSE programs (i.e. Safety day, SMEX, Weekly HSSE contractor meeting, toolbox talks).
3. Role requirement
A. Education & Background
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum CGPA 3.0 and above
B. Skills & Competencies
- Good understanding of basic HSSE concepts (risk assessment, incident reporting, inspections).
- Strong analytical and documentation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Good communication and interpersonal skills; able to work with diverse teams.
- Attention to detail, with a proactive and safety‑conscious mindset.
C. Other Requirements
- Willingness to learn and participate in field activities.
- Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines.
- Positive attitude and strong teamwork capabilities.
- Minimum 6 months of internship commitment
