Job overview

We are looking for a passionate individual to take on a role as a Patient Safety Office who is dedicated to driving safe, effective and high quality care for the people who use our services, their families, carers and visitors. This is a key role in supporting the delivery of the National Patient Safety Incident Response Framework.

Main duties of the job

The Patient Safety Officer role requires understanding an knowledge of patient safety within a healthcare setting. The role requires close working with senior leaders within our Directorates across the Trust to support effective patient safety.

The role entails an ability to use and understand data systems to be able to provide and present patient safety data. This includes clear presentation and communication skills facilitating regular meetings with senior leaders within the Directorates to support then to maintain timely management of incidents, identifying learning and driving improvements.

It requires an ability to support clinical and non clinical staff to ensure a a culture that improves quality through the effective identification of lessons/areas for improvement and promotion of learning as a result of data analysis and investigation, using audit and evaluation cycles to seek assurance.

This role is vital in supporting our clinical team to drive improvement in patient safety and requires on site working .

Working for our organisation

Croydon Health Services provides integrated NHS services to care for people at home, in schools, and health clinics across the borough as well as at Croydon University Hospital and Purley War Memorial Hospital.

CUH provides more than 100 specialist services and is home to the borough's only Emergency Department and 24/7 maternity services, including a labour ward, midwifery-led birth centre and the Crocus home birthing team.

Purley War Memorial Hospital (PWMH) in the south of the borough offers outpatient care, including diagnostic services, physiotherapy and ophthalmology services run by Moorfields Eye Hospital, alongside an onsite GP surgery.

Our experienced district nursing teams, Allied Health Professionals and community matrons look after for people of all ages across Croydon and our Children's Hospital at Home cares for children with long-term conditions without them having to come to hospital.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or higher, or relevant experience in the field of quality and patient safety
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable criteria
  • Previous Experience within the NHS
  • Quality improvement training / qualification

KNOWLEDGE & UNDERSTANDING

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS Quality and Patient Safety acquired through training and experience
  • Knowledge of using a database and making judgements about the data entered
  • Experience of working to deadlines and managing processes to deadlines
  • Experience of providing information in a clear and concise manner
  • Experience of reporting against Performance indicators and quality metrics
  • Experience of PSRIF
  • Experience of producing reports and analysing data
  • Knowledge of Quality improvement

Desirable criteria
  • Experience and working knowledge of the Radar reporting management system
  • Understanding of the healthcare environment in both acute and community settings
  • Knowledge of risk management
  • Working knowledge of Data Protection issues
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a member of a team
  • Experience of multi professional working within a healthcare setting
