Job Description Summary

The GE Aviation Senior Engineer / Technologist - NDT demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role you will integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.

The Senior Engineer / Technologist - NDT will provide technical and program leadership for progression of inspection technology optimization and part quality for additive technology. In this role you will be responsible for leading the integration of technology related to nondestructive testing (NDT) to ensure additive part quality can be confirmed with a process optimized for SQDC. Types of NDT required for additive hardware include, but are not limited to, radiography, fluorescent penetrant inspections, ultrasonic testing and resonance testing.

Related to NDT, this role will advise and aid cross-functional teams progressing through TRL & MRL process to enable the portfolio of NPI additive parts across the value stream. They will utilize, own and help improve the manufacturing standard work including site and process qualification, technology and application (TRL/MRL) development schedules, process risk identification and closure, value stream mapping, predicting and executing cost out initiatives, producibility, SPS, process capability and quality planning and strategy.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Lead effort to integrate existing and emerging NDT technologies into additive quality plan inclusive of all requirements related to additive specific specifications, drawing requirements and generic/industry requirements related to materials and geometry
  • Work with technology development labs to develop new NDT technology and methods
  • Help develop technology requirements based on TRL methodology
  • Define gaps and closure strategy for the integration of applications related to in-process monitoring, NDT, functional testing and process controls to ensure additive part quality
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional team meetings including design engineering, quality, inspection technology and manufacturing with a goal of defining requirements and standards for the use of NDT as part of an integrated additive part quality plan
  • Remain current in the state of the art within own technical specialty for new products introduction activity, performance improvements, cost reductions and problem resolutions.
  • Serve as a recognized leader in defining the state of the art in own technical specialty to anticipate, develop and apply technology to current and future business opportunities
  • Provide engineering support, within one's specialty, to teams working on performance, cost reduction and quality initiatives
  • Leverage expertise to resolve problems in the field or during the manufacturing processes
  • Make recommendations after analysis of the data using quality tools
  • Protect the Intellectual Property rights of the Company
  • Function as program manager when appropriate
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers
  • Develop and implement training modules as necessary
  • Establish lean practices in the development of manufacturing processes and mentor team members in the art of lean process creation
  • Provide manufacturing consultation on any new work coming into the additive part family including initial development schedules, resource needs and cost predictions to aid in key strategic decisions.
  • Utilize standard work for development schedule creation of NPI parts selected for execution to ensure manufacturing readiness is achieved to prediction
  • Lead customer meetings with an on-time delivery focus and detailed knowledge of the part portfolio. Communicate key technical and business information between organizations and divisions.
  • Provide an open environment for collaboration with design engineering to execute key changes in the development process.
  • Develop technical solutions and partner with other IPT technical leadership to implement and transition products to our production facilities.
  • Ensure company compliance initiatives are implemented and followed.


Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree accredited college or university in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years in NDT experience )
  • Minimum of 5 years of NDT or engineering experience
