Short Description

We are seeking an experienced Mud Engineer / Mud Technician to support a major HDD project in Scotland. Working alongside the Drilling Supervisor, HDD Driller, and rig crew, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the drilling fluids system on a 300‑ton fully electric maxi rig.

Function Description

You will be expected to:

• Manage the mixing, testing, conditioning, and recycling of drilling fluids for HDD operations.
• Operate and maintain mud systems including:
• Conduct regular mud property tests (viscosity, density, sand content, funnel time, pH, yield point, gel strengths).
• Adjust fluid properties to match ground conditions such as rock, clay, glacial till, and mixed face.
• Maintain detailed mud logs, fluid volumes, additives usage, and system performance.

Requirements

• Minimum 3-5 years' experience as a Mud Engineer or Mud Technician on HDD projects.
• Strong understanding of bentonite-based and polymer-based drilling fluid systems.
• Experience working on 250-300+ ton maxi rigs or large-diameter HDD crossings.
• Proficiency in mud testing and fluid monitoring procedures.
• Familiar with UK disposal regulations and environmental guidelines for drilling fluids.
• Valid CSCS or similar construction site certification.
• Full right to work in the United Kingdom.
