Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Clinical Safety Officer will be seen as a leading authority and primary point of contact for all matters relating to clinical safety of our Trust's digital health systems. The postholder, working with subject matter experts, will be responsible for the assessment and identification of both direct and indirect clinical hazards to patients, and the appropriate mitigation of the identified hazards.

The post holder will be competent with digital clinical safety. The postholder will work collaboratively with governance teams within the Digital Directorate and the Group to ensure streamlined processes are in place for the management of risk and investigation of incidents where these relate to or involve digital solutions.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered healthcare professional with current UK registration.
  • Experience and familiarity with CSO role, with accredited CSO qualification.
  • Master's level qualification in leadership, Change, Service Transformation or other relevant subject or equivalent experience.
  • Articulate in the delivery of large projects or similar trust wide initiatives
  • Evidence of recent and ongoing CPD/learning in relevant area

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experienced CSO with portfolio of evidence to demonstrate past practice and achievements.
  • Experienced clinician with evidence of working effectively across a range of clinical settings within a large teaching organisation
  • Excellent communication skills with a range of people from a variety of disciplines regarding a range of business or technical matters
  • Excellent writing and oral skills, including preparation of formal reports and training materials.

Communication and relationship skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communicator with a high level of interpersonal skills.
  • Positive team focus and effective leadership style, which is adaptable, dependent upon required situation.
  • Demonstrate a quality and outcomes focus in their work.
  • Demonstratable passion for safe and effective healthcare.
  • Able to engage colleagues through leadership, positivity and effective communication of Trust Digital strategies.

Analytical and Judgement skills

Essential criteria
  • Responsible for analysing and investigating complex and interlinked digital and clinical issues in relation to digital clinical safety.
  • Evidence ability to interpret and present data across disciplines in non -technical terminology.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • The post holder will need to develop and maintain their own knowledge of developments and legislation relevant to digital clinical safety and ensure that their practice reflects current professional guidance and standards.
  • The post holder will take responsibility for his or her own professional development, identifying training and educational needs and agreeing ways of addressing these with the Chief Clinical Information Officer
  • Maintain clinical credibility and stay up to date with developments in clinical practice, which includes maintaining live registration through active clinical practice

Planning and organisation skills

Essential criteria
  • Working knowledge of all relevant UK legislation relating to Digital including but not limited to Freedom of Information Act, GDPR, Data Protection Act.
  • Understanding of complex public sector organisations and how they work with others effectively
  • Evidence an understanding of NHS legislation, governance frameworks, statute and constitution and the impact on NHS organisations.
  • Experience in producing high quality documentation including Clinical Risk Management (CRM) Plans, Hazard Logs , and Clinical Safety Case Reports, in adherence to national standards.
  • Experience in organising Clinical Safety Hazard workshops and capturing evidence of controls.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.

The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.

The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
