JOB DESCRIPTION

The Project Controller at NOV APL, part of NOV's Energy Equipment segment, is responsible for financial governance and performance management of large, complex offshore oil & gas projects. Based at the APL headquarters in Arendal and reporting directly to the Finance Director, the role acts as a key financial partner to project management and senior leadership, ensuring disciplined execution, transparency, and profitability throughout the full project lifecycle.

This position requires strong commercial judgment, the ability to manage complexity, and confidence engaging with senior stakeholders across engineering, supply chain, operations, and executive management.

This is a temporary position with a duration of 12-18 months, offering the opportunity to contribute to major international energy projects within a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide full financial controlling responsibility for large offshore oil & gas projects, from order intake through execution and close-out
  • Own project budgets, forecasts, cost control, and margin development, ensuring alignment with approved baselines
  • Act as a trusted financial advisor to project managers, highlighting risks, opportunities, and mitigation actions
  • Prepare, analyze, and present project financial performance to the Finance Director, senior management, and relevant steering forums
  • Monitor cash flow, cost-to-complete, and forecast accuracy for assigned projects
  • Ensure compliance with NOV APL and Energy Equipment financial policies, internal controls, and reporting requirements
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes related to project financials
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, supply chain, operations, and finance teams to ensure accurate and timely financial data
  • Drive continuous improvement in project controlling processes, tools, and reporting, including digital and BI initiatives
  • Support internal and external audits, management reviews, and ad-hoc financial analyses


Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal
  • 3-5 years of experience in project controlling or project finance, preferably within oil & gas, energy, or other capital-intensive industries
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field required
  • Strong communication skills with proven ability to interact confidently with senior stakeholders and management
  • Advanced Excel skills, including financial modeling and complex data analysis
  • Solid working knowledge of ERP systems


Preferred / Advantageous Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline
  • Norwegian language skills
  • Experience with Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS)
  • Experience with Power BI or similar business intelligence tools
