Roles & Responsibilities
This is a field mechanic role responsible for performing mechanic duties for rotating equipment maintenance within midstream gas compression / gathering assets.
This includes working on various equipment types such as pumps, compressors, engines, motors, blowers, and fans. Responsibilities include interaction with technical specialists, engineering, planning, scheduling, and supply chain to support continuous improvement of equipment reliability and minimizing equipment downtime.

This is a field mechanic role responsible for performing mechanic duties for rotating equipment maintenance within midstream gas compression / gathering assets.
This includes working on various equipment types such as pumps, compressors, engines, motors, blowers, and fans. Responsibilities include interaction with technical specialists, engineering, planning, scheduling, and supply chain to support continuous improvement of equipment reliability and minimizing equipment downtime.
The primary responsibilities for these roles include:
- Maintains and repairs: gas compressors, air compressors, pumps, IC engines, Condenser fans, gear boxes, electric motors, valves, and basic system controls.
- Inspects equipment for signs of vibration damage, leaks, unusual noise, excessive wear, damage from foreign objects in fluid, and corrosion damage.
- Completes preventative and predictive maintenance per PM schedule on: Gas compressors, air compressors, pumps, IC engines, fin fans, gear boxes, electric motors, valves, and basic system controls.
- Troubleshoots performance issues on the following equipment: gas compressors, air compressors, pumps, Internal combustion engines, fin fans, gear boxes, electric motors, valves and basic control systems.
- Maintains and inspects pumps, compressors, gas engines, electric drivers, and steam drivers.
- Repairs and/or replaces compressor valves.
- Completes alignment activities on pumps and compressors.
- Replaces packing on positive displacement pumps.
- Replace lube oil and air filters.
- Completes overhauls on equipment per manufacturer recommendations on hourly usage.
- Completes pump repairs: replace mechanical seals, packing, seals, gaskets, bearings, inspection of vanes, alignment, and inspection of clearances.
- Completes vibration monitoring of plant equipment, including compressors and pumps.
- Completes bearing inspections, repair or replace valves and packing, and checking of alignment.
- Completes lubrication sampling, analysis, and proper reporting to reliability program contacts.
- Completes condenser fan inspections, inspecting/repairing/replacing fan bearings, vibration monitoring, and inspection of condition of belts.
- Greases, inspects, and replaces bearings of electric motors.
- Conducts and/or participates in defect elimination meetings.
- Demonstrates basic computer skills including efficient management of email and calendars.
- Demonstrates competency to read and interpret: P&IDs, PFDs, schematics, blueprints, an isometric drawing.
- Skilled in gas processing, terminology, and concepts relevant to work activities (e.g., hydrostatic pressures, pressure ratings, torque).
- Comprehensive knowledge of key process equipment operation, components, and related concepts.
- Comprehensive understanding of valve and piping construction, pressure ratings, and piping specifications applicable to job role. Comprehensive knowledge of plant processes and terminology.
- Skilled at executing safe work practices.
- Skilled at coaching others on safe work activities during daily meetings and on location.
- Demonstrates appropriate tool selection, use, and care.
- Instructs others on correct tool selection, use, and care.
- Demonstrates ability to set new equipment, including pumps, filters, filter housings, compressors, and process equipment.
- Demonstrates ability to purge facility pipe, pumps, compressors, and other process equipment.
- Demonstrates competency when installing and removing blinds.
- Demonstrates competency to complete and submit all permits tied to work activities to the appropriate EHS representative.
- Demonstrates competency to complete assigned work orders, including clear long text and TECO.
- Comprehensive knowledge and skilled execution of mechanical work activities, including: "bolt-up" procedures, line of fire, and energy isolation. Document work order history to include all relevant documentation including as-found / as-left data.
- Provide feedback to maintenance planning, scheduling, and supply chain to ensure continuous improvement with maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution processes and procedures.

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Driver's License
- Perform millwright functions in inspection, repair, troubleshoot, overhaul, setting up, and maintaining equipment such as gas compressors, air compressors, pumps (centrifugal and positive displacement), natural gas engines, fin fans, gear boxes, electric motors, valves and basic control systems.
- Experience in the following types of equipment:
- Pumps: (Goulds, Clyde Union, Viking, Moyno)
- Positive Displacement Compressors: (Ariel, Dresser- Rand, Newmann and Esser, Howden, Sulliar, Frick)
- Centrifugal Compressors: (Elliott, Solar, Atlas Copco, Quincy)
- Natural Gas Engines: (Caterpillar, Waukesha)
- Proficient use of precision machinist tools and able to operate a forklift, bridge crane, JLG, or other motorized equipment
- Strong SAP skills (e.g. able to plan work orders, search materials, review work schedules)
- Able to work overtime and rotating call-out support
- Must be willing and able to work in North Dakota operations locations, both indoors and outdoors, in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures
- Strong knowledge of applicable EHS procedures/practices such as Permit to Work, Energy Isolation, Respiratory Protection, PPE, Emergency Response
Preferred Qualifications
- Industrial / Oilfield experience.
- 5 + years of mechanical experience on reciprocating and centrifugal gas compressors, internal combustion engines and pumps
- Excellent collaboration and interpersonal communication skills
- Knowledge of safety requirements and practices.
- Associates or technical degree preferred
- Demonstrates strong continuous improvement capabilities and/or ability to learn following skills.
- Support standardized work development; continuously seek to make standardized work more efficient and safer while ensuring work quality.
- Possess strong written and verbal communications skills with ability to lead, coach, and train others
- Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills
