As an Associate Engineer in the Materials Research team of Aerospace Research, you will support research and development of advanced materials - specifically ceramics, coatings, and composites for a broad range of current and future GE Aerospace applications. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe laboratory environment by adhering to safety protocols, identifying hazards, maintaining safety equipment, training personnel, and staying up-to-date on safety regulations. You will perform a range of laboratory activities related synthesis of materials, testing and analysis of various materials and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies. The candidate will work collaboratively with other laboratory personnel and provide critical support and expertise to research and development projects.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Prepare samples for testing, including cutting, grinding, polishing, and mounting materials
- Conduct a variety of tests on materials, including mechanical, thermal, and environmental tests
- Record test data accurately and completely, and analyze & report results
- Adhering to laboratory safety protocols and procedures, includes wearing appropriate PPE, handling chemicals and equipment safely
- Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, including troubleshooting and minor repairs
- Apply innovative thinking to laboratory experimentation and equipment in support of research projects
- Collaborate with other laboratory personnel to develop new testing procedures and protocols
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory activities and test results
- Collaborate with Facilities and Safety personnel to ensure Standard Operating Procedures are written, approved, followed and updated
- Support engineers/scientists on project execution and on-time delivery

Required Qualifications & Characteristics
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Ceramics, or a related field
- 1-2 years of experience in a ceramics / coatings / materials preparation and testing laboratory preferred
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and procedures
- Familiarity with ceramic processing and coating techniques
- Familiarity with high temperature testing equipment's and analytical techniques / equipment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer applications as needed
- Safety mindset
Desired Characteristics
- Experience operating static, fatigue, and creep test equipment's with high temperature sensors and data acquisition systems
- Experience operating facility services including high pressure air compressors, heaters, chillers, etc.
- Experience with data reduction and analysis
- Passion for hands-on development and laboratory work
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to new processes
