Job Description:

Role Summary

The role is in service of bp's West Australian portfolio, including the Kwinana Energy Hub, (and gas assets and renewables projects as required). It reports to the Government & Industry Affairs Manager (WA) within Communications & External Affairs.

You will be part of a team of communications and external affairs professionals providing specialist advice and assistance in the preparation and implementation of communication strategies, community engagement and managing non-technical risks.

The successful applicant will predominately support activities and projects associated with the site operations and transition projects and activities at the Kwinana Energy Hub. The role will span a broad range of communications and external affairs activities, including the development and implementation of regulatory approvals, partner and community engagement plans, as well as strategic internal communications aligned with business priorities.

The Communications & External Affairs Advisor will produce a range of creative communications materials for digital and traditional platforms as well as working closely with colleagues from across the country on major events and communication initiatives.

What you will deliver

  • Provide trusted advice to Kwinana site operations and projects leadership team members to help manage and mitigate non-technical risks.
  • Develop and implement essential communications initiatives in support of bp's Kwinana Energy Hub operations and projects, including incident response.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with Kwinana's community and industry collaborators, including supporting social investment partnerships.
  • Work with C&EA colleagues in Australia and New Zealand to ensure standard process corporate communications to engage and empower the broader bp team.

Essential Education:

  • BA degree or equivalent experience in a relevant subject area. This could include communications, environmental management, change management, economics or social and political sciences.

Essential Experience and Job Requirements:

  • At least 5 years experience in critical communications and stakeholder engagement
  • Understanding of government, stakeholder and community relations in Perth and Western Australia
  • Excellent networking capability and inter-personnel skills
  • A proven ability to work on simultaneous projects to achieve successful outcomes
  • Excellent writing, proofreading and verbal communication skills
  • A collaborative and creative approach
  • Experience working in industrial environments
  • Experience in incident response - particularly in industry, resources or utilities
  • You will be required to work from both Kwinana and Perth office locations during office days.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in government or political settings
  • Experience in industry or operational environments
  • A good understanding of energy transition challenges and opportunities
  • Additional post graduate qualification in relevant subject
