Short Description

We are seeking a Local Representative in Jamaica to act as the primary in-country point of contact, supporting performance monitoring and data collection for plastic interception systems in Kingston Harbour while collaborating with local stakeholders and an international HQ team in Rotterdam.

Function Description

We are seeking a hands-on Local Representative in Jamaica to serve as the primary in-country point of contact for a mission-driven environmental organization working to prevent plastic waste from reaching the ocean by intercepting it upstream. The role supports field-based performance monitoring and data collection for plastic interception systems, with an initial focus on Kingston Harbour and potential expansion to other locations in Jamaica.

In this position, you will act as the key link between local stakeholders/contractors and an international team, collaborating closely with the Project Manager and the Central Operations team based at HQ in Rotterdam. You will help ensure the agreed strategy is executed locally, support performance monitoring activities, and contribute to operational follow-up through regular site visits and structured reporting. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys being "boots on the ground," thrives in fast-paced environments, and brings strong communication skills, cultural awareness, and attention to detail.

Main tasks & responsibilities:

Performance Monitoring & Data Collection

• Support data collection efforts by conducting research experiments.

• Support the installation, improvements, and maintenance of monitoring equipment.

• Coordinate research and monitoring activities in Jamaica across local stakeholders, contractors, and internal teams (e.g., operations, analysis & performance, waste management).

• Analyse results and report findings to relevant teams.

Operational Support

• Conduct regular site visits to monitor system/barrier performance and operational execution.

• Collect feedback and participate in project meetings to support continuous improvement.

Coordination & Representation

• Serve as the in-country representative and coordinate with local stakeholders, contractors, and authorities.

• Act as the link between local execution and the international team (Project Manager and Central Operations at HQ in Rotterdam).

• Ensure the execution of the agreed strategy and accountability to the organization through structured progress updates and internal reporting processes.

Requirements

• Relevant technical degree (e.g., marine sciences, geomatics, or similar).

• 5-7 years of experience in a project coordination role.

Fluent English (written and spoken).

• Experience with monitoring, reporting, and evaluation (M&E) frameworks.

Highly Desirable / Nice-to-have

• Experience working in Jamaica and understanding key local stakeholders.

• Knowledge of Jamaican Patois or local dialects.

Personal Attributes

• Hands-on, curious, and proactive mindset; you enjoy executing and solving problems yourself.

• Excellent communicator who enjoys sharing knowledge and presenting key findings clearly..

• Flexible working hours and willingness to travel abroad if required.

If you are motivated by meaningful environmental impact and enjoy hands-on project coordination in the field, we'd love to hear from you.
