Role Synopsis

Key Challenges and Complexities

Provide drilling engineering support during well planning and operational execution of well construction, in conformance with well plan/BOD, all BP policies and standards and compliance with local regulations. Planning begins with the Integrated Well Delivery process through all aspects of the delivery to final handover to Production. The Drilling Engineer will support the Senior Drilling Engineer in the collaborate with all well planning and execution stakeholders.

Experience:

Awareness of the engineering principles and practices of well design.

Transparency on required contribution from stakeholders and drill well experience on rigs or semi-submersibles or drillship for relevant offshore location.

Experience in working with third party contractual relationships.

Experience in integration of engineering planning with operations execution.

Standard Key Accountabilities

• Responsible for well planning deliverables required to execute well operations and procedures on the rig.
• Delivers well objectives within budget, on schedule and without incident.
• Tracks Well Construction Performance (Cost/Schedule/Quality) in conformance with BOD/well plan.
• Understands decision support package (DSP) requirements for DVA Select/Define and Execute/Review of NWD stage gates.
• Facilitates conformance to Global Practices, etc. on all drilling planning work.
• Verifies appropriate well design simulations (i.e. cementing, drlg ECDs, etc.) have been completed with reasonable sensitivities considered
• Support the SDE/DEM drive conformance with HSSE/CoW, Statutory and BP policies, including OMS and Drilling & Well Operations Practices (DWOP), during well planning and in support of execution of well operations.
• Implements the well integrity considerations in well design to ensure the safe delivery of reserves over the life of the well.
• Integral participate in Incident Management Team (IMT) during well control and emergency response procedures and protocols during well execution.
• Knowledgeable of management systems and operations related to incident investigation and close out
• Ability to perform detailed risk assessments with executable prevention and mitigation barriers identified
• Incorporates and shares Regional learnings into future Basis of Designs (BoDs), in coordination with DEM.
• Drives engineering standardization and continuous improvement through utilization of global best practices, after action reviews and conformance to WDWF processes.
• Facilitate timely regulatory submittals for approval to avoid operational delays
• Interfaces with PSCM's Category Management Processes (i.e. PRMs, Scorecards, cSoR surveillance) & third party contractual relationships.
• Ensure timely construction & delivery of historically based affidavit for expenditures (AFEs)
• Review and technical approval of third party invoices
• OCTG forecasting needs
• Provides engineering input to business proposals through necessary cost, risk and deliverability assessments in the event of changes needed to the drilling program.
• Code of Conduct awareness and conformance.
• Provides Engineering support to and integration with the appropriate Projects and Operations Function.

Key Relationships

The Drilling Engineer (DE) will report to the Drilling Engineering Manager. The DE will support the SDE with the interfaces with the Reservoir Development Team (i.e. Subsurface, Base Management, etc.).

They will need to cultivate relationships with the other teams within the Discipline (Completions Engineering, Intervention Engineering and Operations) and across Discipline (subsea, subsurface and projects teams particularly). They will also work closely with Discipline Leads, contractors and well service personnel in the field.

Other key relationships include Logistics for supplies and personnel, the New Well Delivery team, the Resource team, and Integrity teams.

Travel Requirement
Up to 10% travel should be expected with this role
