The work model for the role is: hybrid #LI hybrid
As a trainee, you will be embedded in our MOHP teams. The aim is to give you a solid understanding of our technology, enable your participation in early customer project execution, and provide hands on experience across various tasks. An assignment abroad will complement your development strengthening your global collaboration skills and preparing you to transition into a permanent position.
The start date of the program is October 1, 2026. The position will be open for applications in April 2026, and all applicants will receive an update on their application status in May. The selection process will take place in May/June 2026.

You will be mainly accountable for :
- Driving innovative software development during the 1st assignment in Switzerland by designing and implementing embedded real‑time applications in modern C++, contributing across the full software development lifecycle , and developing as well as productizing advanced control algorithms for Medium Voltage Drives while ensuring reliability through comprehensive software testing .
- Expanding your technical and cultural experience during the 2nd assignment abroad ( for example in Japan, India, China, Finland , or Poland ) by working closely with international teams, gaining exposure to diverse engineering environments , and contributing to globally relevant projects within Motion High Power.
- Shaping your long‑term career direction during the 3rd assignment in Switzerland by taking on a role that aligns with your strengths and interests , defined based on your development path and performance throughout the program .
- G rowing your professional capabilities throughout the entire Discovery Program by exploring different functions , receiving continuous feedback , benefiting from targeted training , mentoring , and executive exposure , and actively engaging in team activities and global networking within the ABB Discovery trainee community .
Qualifications for the role
- You hold a Master's degree ( MSc ) in Electrical Engineering, Robotics , Mechatronics , or a closely related field , and you have authorization to work in Switzerland ( at least a B permit ).
- You have a maximum of three years of professional work experience by the start date of October 1, 202 6 .
- You have a strong interest in embedded application design and C++ programming , ideally supported by hands‑on experience through student projects , lab work , or internships .
- You possess motivation to learn advanced modulation techniques for three‑phase systems ( e.g ., PWM, optimized pulse patterns ) and nonlinear control methods , and bring basic knowledge of field‑oriented control for motor drives or grid‑connected converters .
- You bring basic proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink to validate control concepts and perform system‑level simulations .
- You demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills , thrive in global project environments , describe yourself as motivated , creative , self‑organized , and have excellent English skills ( advanced German is a plus ).
- You embody curiosity , open‑mindedness , creativity, flexibility , and an entrepreneurial mindset valuing fresh perspectives , thoughtful questions , and a willingness to challenge the status quo .
