General Information

The graduation project takes place within the Electrification division, Service department (ELSE). ELSE operates from the locations Rotterdam and Dalfsen, where approximately 80 employees work on the maintenance and service of low‑ and medium‑voltage installations.

In 2026, ABB acquired the British company IPEC Ltd to strengthen the service portfolio in the field of preventive maintenance and condition monitoring. IPEC specializes in online partial discharge monitoring in high‑ and medium‑voltage systems. For ABB Electrification Service NL, this technology can add significant value, both for new installations and for the large existing installed base.

Using IPEC technology offers opportunities to approach customers proactively, make maintenance more predictable, and reduce the risk of failures - but it requires clear insight into the technical, procedural, and commercial preconditions.

Your Responsibilities

Research and analysis tasks

- Mapping the technical, procedural, and commercial requirements for deploying IPEC technology.
- Analyzing the technical compatibility with existing ABB installations.
- Investigating what process adjustments are needed for a proactive maintenance and monitoring process.
- Conducting market research to identify suitable segments, opportunities, and threats.
- Preparing financial analyses, including business cases, investments, and returns.

Design and development tasks

- Developing a concrete and measurable proactive maintenance and monitoring process (as‑is / to‑be).
- Designing and validating an intervention such as: process design, service design, implementation plan, or cost/price model.
- Validating the intervention through expert interviews, simulations, or a pilot setup.

Deliverables

- Compatibility analysis
- Market analysis + segment recommendation
- SWOT analysis
- Financial business case
- Process analysis (as‑is and to‑be)
- Intervention design + validation
- Final advisory report

Complexity

The assignment covers both technical and business‑oriented topics and requires analysis, design, and intervention development within a complex and partly unknown context.

Your Profile

- You are following a relevant HBO or WO degree program (technical, business, or related).
- You can work in a research‑driven, analytical, and structured manner.
- You have an interest in condition monitoring, maintenance processes, and technical services.
- You are able to work independently and find your way in an organization with many experts and a lot of data.
- You can switch between technical content and business applications.

What We Offer

A fun and challenging internship in which you will have the opportunity to gain experience within an international organization. We offer an internship allowance of €650 gross (HBO) or €750 gross (WO) for a 40‑hour workweek. In addition, you can expect one fixed day off per month. Travel costs? Not a problem. In addition to your student public transport card, we reimburse 50% of the remaining travel expenses.
