Your Role and Responsibilities
The Lean Challenge is an 18‑year initiative that began at our Saltillo site with the goal of strengthening our connection with universities, attracting new talent, and giving students a hands‑on introduction to the manufacturing world. At the same time, the program was designed to promote a strong culture of continuous improvement within our operations.
Since then, the Lean Challenge has evolved into an international competition where ideas, practices, and improvements are shared across ABB. It brings together students, divisions, and teams, creating an environment that develops talent and drives meaningful improvements to our business.
Through Continuous Improvement Projects based on Quality Wins and Lean Manufacturing principles, participants gain real experience while contributing to impactful results.
The program is open to university students in their final semesters, with conversational English skills and strong presentation abilities.

In this role, you'll help run what runs the world by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact, as you will be accountable for:
- Gathering feedback from key stakeholders involved in new products or process improvement activities.
- Collaborating with cross‑functional teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Developing and maintaining web‑based applications that enhance process efficiency and eliminate waste.
- Identifying and proposing improvement ideas and executing them as full projects upon approval.
- Documenting best practices and any standards implemented during the project lifecycle.
- Participating in a local and international competition in which university students develop a continuous improvement team project based on Quality Wins and Lean Manufacturing principles during the summer.
Qualifications for the Role
- You are currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Management, Energy, Industrial, Supply Chain, or Manufacturing Engineering, or in Physics.
- Utilize critical thinking skills to analyze complex situations and develop strategic solutions.
- Effectively organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Exhibit the capability to manage several tasks at once while maintaining high standards of quality.
- Collaborate with team members to convey ideas, share information, and provide updates on project progress.
