About the role

We are seeking a Temporary Assistant Safety Officer to support a busy Safety team during a particularly demanding period. The role is primarily on-site. Starting asap for approximately 12 weeks in the first instance.

Essential Criteria:

• PhD/DPhil in Chemistry or related subject, or equivalent lab-based experience.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Good IT skills (MS Office).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key Duties:

• Provide day-to-day safety advice for laboratory and office-based work.
• Advise on chemical safety and COSHH compliance.
• Assist with hazardous waste management and disposal.
• Support risk assessments, lab rules, and safety training.
• Deliver safety inductions and maintain training records.
• Conduct safety inspections and support audits and fire risk assessments.
