As part of our strategic growth, we are hiring a new Internal Controls Manager to strengthen our internal control environment across Denmark and the Baltics, with occasional support to Finland.

This role is open globally, but preferred locations are set close to our Motion locations in Denmark, Estonia and Finland. The work model is hybrid #LI-hybrid.

With this role, you'll partner closely with business controllers, functions and local division management as well as the Country Holding Officer (CHO) and Country Finance Manager (CFM) to implement and improve our integrated reporting and internal controls system.

You will be responsible for supporting our local division management, key personnel in various functions (procurement, sales, logistics, IS...), Business Process Owners, Control Owners and Control Performers with the implementation of global ABB and Motion-level policies and global controls in the country, as well as helping them identify local business risks requiring local controls, while finding opportunities to strengthen our compliance posture and improve and automate existing controls, driving efficiency gains.

You will also support the local implementation of controls resulting from strategic transformation projects at ABB and Motion together with the Global Projects Internal Control Managers, as required .

This position will report to the Internal Controls Europe Cluster Lead, ABB Motion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and continuously improve an effective assurance framework to manage key strategic, operational, financial and compliance risks.


  • Drive the implementation of the Motion business and internal control strategy and ensure compliance with ABB's internal control requirements.


  • Support the local deployment of internal controls derived from projects and initiatives led by key functions, Corporate or Global Process Owners in ABB at the global, BA or country level.


  • Support business stakeholders, risk owners and local management in the proactive identification of key business risks and designing internal controls to align with the risk posture and business strategy and objectives .


  • Strengthen the overall control framework in your countries and improve and optimize processes and controls.


  • Set up and lead internal control efficiency or compliance projects in the country.


  • Ensure the business remains up to date with our risk and internal controls methodology and operating model, and stays compliant with new policies and procedures, providing training/support to Business Process Owners, Control Owners and Control Performers as required .


  • Liaise with Internal Audit and the External Auditor, supporting the audit process and ensuring timely responses to audit requests.


Additional responsibilities

  • Support and monitor the timely execution of all internal control activities (process walkthroughs, management testing, quarterly assurance confirmations, deficiency assessments...) as well as internal and external audit reviews in the country.


  • When internal control deficiencies are identified , support the remediation responsible in designing and implementing sustainable remediation plans, ensuring proper root cause analysis, action plans, financial impact assessment, and quality of remediations done properly and timely .


  • Implement new controls derived from changes to ABB's or Motion' s business processes, structure, operating model, or systems landscape, etc. Drive efficiency and quality.


  • Implement new or updated Internal Control methodology and ABB global controls in the country, in line with ABB's and Motion's standards and requirements.


  • Implement locally any changes to the Global Segregation of Duties ruleset and design/implement mitigating controls as required .


  • Act as a subject matter expert in internal controls for key stakeholders in the country and provide regular training to key stakeholders on internal controls and compliance topics.


  • Be a true business partner and trusted advisor to our business, divisions and functions. Supporting them managing change and dealing successfully with all ongoing transformation programs and initiatives.

Q ualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or equivalent.


  • Minimum 10 years of experience in internal controls, auditing, risk management or compliance, preferably in a multinational company or a Big4 firm.


  • Experience working across a large, complex organization interacting with all functional areas.


  • Good business knowledge and command on key business processes (P2P, O2C, R2R at least), with hands-on experience in internal control.


  • Solid understanding of internal control frameworks such as COSO, and international accounting standards (e.g., US GAAP).


  • Good understanding of SAP functionalities.


  • Additional professional qualifications such as CPA, CIA or CISA are an advantage.


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders internally and externally.


  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently, under pressure, and collaboratively with various stakeholders.


  • Commitment to developing, best practices, innovation and continuous improvement.


  • Fluent command of English (written and spoken); additional local languages are an advantage.


  • Embrace and demonstrate the values of care, courage, curiosity, and collaboration.


  • Willingness to travel occasionally within the country or abroad.
