About the Role

The Data Hub Geoscientist is responsible for enabling safe, efficient, and reliable delivery of geoscience data products and services through modern data platforms. This role sits at the intersection of subsurface domain expertise, data platforms, and cloud-native architectures.

You will work on complex, large-scale subsurface datasets and design data-driven solutions using modern techniques, including OSDU-based data platforms, microservices, APIs, and cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, GCP). You will collaborate closely with geoscientists, data engineers, software engineers, and product teams to ensure high-quality, trusted, and scalable subsurface data workflows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide domain-driven technical support across the Sales, Product, and Service Delivery lifecycle for subsurface data platforms.
  • Design and support data ingestion, management, and access workflows using OSDU-based architectures.
  • Work with large, complex, and heterogeneous subsurface datasets (seismic, wells, interpretations, models, documents).
  • Contribute to data platform solutions using microservices and API-driven architectures.
  • Support and validate cloud-based data storage and processing on Azure, AWS, and GCP.
  • Collaborate with software, data, and platform engineers to optimize technical designs and workflows.
  • Assist in real-time incident response, root cause analysis, and recovery related to subsurface data platforms.
  • Identify opportunities to apply new, cost-effective, and data-driven techniques in subsurface workflows.
  • Promote adoption of next-generation technologies for data-driven geoscience solutions.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, best practices, and knowledge sharing across teams.
  • Participate in technical communities, publications, and engagements with customers, universities, and research organizations.
  • Support risk management by applying lessons learned to improve job design and execution.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's/Bachelor's degree in Geophysics, Geology, Geoscience, Physics, Petroleum Engineering or related discipline from a reputed institute.
  • Strong understanding of E&P / subsurface workflows (e.g., seismic interpretation, well data, reservoir modeling, petrophysics, geoscience data management).
  • Hands-on experience with OSDU (Open Subsurface Data Universe), including:
    • Data ingestion pipelines
    • Data management and governance
    • Working with OSDU data models and schemas
    • Accessing data via APIs and services
  • Experience with microservices and API-driven architectures (REST, Web APIs) for data access and orchestration.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms: Azure, AWS, and/or GCP, including storage and data services.
  • Experience handling large, bulk, and unstructured datasets.
  • Programming/scripting experience in Python and/or C#.
  • Familiarity with data platforms, data lakes, and distributed systems.
  • Understanding of data quality, metadata, lineage, and data governance in subsurface contexts.
  • Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously and collaborate in cross-functional teams.

Experience
  • 4-8 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with E&P applications (e.g., Petrel, Studio, OpenWorks, DSIS, EDM, etc.).
  • Knowledge of machine learning / deep learning concepts and their application to time series, text, or geoscience data.
  • Experience designing or working with distributed and parallel data processing systems.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerized deployments, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with search, indexing, and data discovery platforms.
  • Track record of technical publications, presentations, or conference participation.
