Hopper Captain for TSHD

Responsibilities

Command and navigate the Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) safely during dredging and sailing operations.

Plan and execute dredging cycles including loading, sailing, and discharge operations.

Monitor dredging parameters such as draghead position, suction depth, slurry density, and hopper filling.

Ensure accurate positioning using DGPS and dredging software systems.

Coordinate with Dredge Master, shore authorities, and Vessel Traffic Services (VTS).

Supervise hopper loading to optimize production while preventing overflow or structural stress.

Manage discharge operations including bottom doors, rainbowing, and pumping ashore.

Ensure compliance with project specifications and environmental regulations.

Maintain safe navigation in restricted waters, channels, and near offshore installations.

Oversee bridge team management and ensure proper watchkeeping standards.

Conduct risk assessments and toolbox talks prior to critical operations.

Respond effectively to emergencies such as draghead obstruction, pipeline blockage, or equipment failure.

Maintain records of dredging activities, production logs, and daily reports.

Ensure adherence to company SMS, ISM Code, and safety procedures onboard.

Liaise with Chief Engineer for machinery readiness and maintenance planning.

Monitor weather, tides, and sea conditions to optimize dredging efficiency.

Train and mentor junior officers and crew in dredging operations.

Ensure proper use and maintenance of navigation and communication equipment.

Enforce discipline and promote a strong safety culture onboard.

Represent the vessel in communications with clients and project stakeholders.

Qualifications

Master (Unlimited) License

10 Year's experience on TSHD.
