Job Description:

As a Senior Technologist, you will play a key role in supporting bp's fuels business by providing technical expertise across product quality, customer complaints, terminal support, and commercial fuels technology matters.

This role is responsible for protecting product quality performance across M&C, Masana customers, resellers, and terminals, while also supporting product launches, claims substantiation, quality incident resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives. You will act as a trusted technical expert, helping the business make informed decisions and ensuring that fuels products meet the required standards in the market.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong technical fuels or product quality experience who enjoys solving problems, working across multiple stakeholders, and translating technical findings into practical business solutions.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Act as the technical expert for product quality processes across M&C, Masana customers, resellers, and terminals
  • Coordinate the customer complaints process, including interpretation of results, guidance on claims, trend analysis, reporting, and support in resolving recurring issues
  • Provide technical support to Commercial Optimization, terminals, and customer-facing teams on fuels technology matters
  • Support product launches, product trials, and deletion of old products, including associated testing and issue resolution
  • Provide technical advice to marketing and commercial teams on product claims, benefits substantiation, and bp Ultimate-related matters
  • Deliver product knowledge training to internal business partners, customers, and terminal teams
  • Provide technical support during product quality incidents and emergencies
  • Conduct or facilitate on-site product quality assessments to review storage and handling practices and recommend improvements
  • Support terminal operations through:
    • review of testing procedures and equipment verification
    • support during audits
    • review of tank test results
    • additisation support
    • truck loading quality checks
    • incident investigations
    • blending calculation modelling
  • Lead or support root cause analysis for quality incidents and implement corrective recommendations
  • Support continuous improvement and product optimisation projects
  • Work with third-party laboratories to coordinate analytical support
  • Ensure technical and safety data sheets are reviewed, updated, and available when required
  • Manage the South Africa technical SharePoint

What you will need

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • Experience in a technical, fuels, product quality, laboratory, terminal, or refining-related environment
  • Strong understanding of product quality management, technical investigations, and incident resolution
  • Experience analysing technical results and providing clear recommendations to the business
  • Knowledge of fuel testing, storage, handling, and terminal quality practices
  • Experience supporting customer complaints, claims, and technical problem-solving
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work across technical, commercial, and operational teams
  • Experience in root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to explain technical topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

Preferred qualifications

  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Engineering, Fuels Technology, or a related technical field
  • Experience within the fuels, energy, oil and gas, or downstream sector
  • Experience working with third-party laboratories and terminal operations
