Torbay Council's Corporate Safety Team has an exciting opportunity in fire safety located in beautiful South Devon. If you have experience in delivering successful fire safety and want a challenging and rewarding career look no further.

Torbay Council has a wide portfolio of assets including offices, historic buildings, depots, commercial assets and residential accommodation. Working with the Senior Fire Safety Officer you will engage extensively with contractors, service managers and our Property Services team, undertaking effective fire risk assessments, inspections and audits together with providing competent Fire Safety advice.

As part of the wider Corporate Safety Service you will ensure legal standards are maintained and that a positive fire safety culture is embedded in all Torbay Council activities.

This post requires a Standard Criminal Level Check. This will show details of all spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions that have not been filtered in line with legislation.

Skills

Essential:
  • Ability to plan programmes of work in advance and prioritise according to risk.
  • Highly developed risk assessment, auditing, inspection and investigation skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records to provide accountability and deliverability.

This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.

Knowledge

Essential:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Electronic Fire/H&S Management systems and their application in the management of Fire Safety.
  • Extensive knowledge of Fire Risk Assessment, including the production of competent reports, accurate records and effective mitigation strategies.
  • In depth knowledge of the management of Fire Safety within a large and diverse organisation.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential:
  • Educated to GCSE O Level standard or equivalent.
  • NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety (RQF Level 3) or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience of delivering Fire Safety Management within a large or complex organisation.
  • Experience in persuading and influencing stakeholders to deliver Fire Safety.
