Your role and responsibilities

The Crane Modernization - Bids & Proposals Manager is responsible for leading end-to-end bid and proposal activities for crane modernization projects. This role requires strong technical expertise in crane applications with a primary focus on motors, drives, AC systems, brake systems, automation, and related accessories used for system upgrades. The position bridges technical engineering, commercial strategy, and customer requirements to deliver competitive, compliant, and value-driven proposals.

This role is contributing to the Motion business based at Bangalore, India:

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Bids & Proposals Management
• Manage the complete bid lifecycle for crane modernization projects-from RFQ analysis to final submission.
• Coordinate with sales, engineering, procurement, and project teams to prepare technically accurate and commercially competitive proposals.
• Develop technical and commercial bid documentation including scope of work, compliance matrices, technical deviations, BOQs, and cost estimates.
• Ensure proposals comply with customer specifications, industry standards, and internal quality guidelines.

Process Improvement & Knowledge Management
Standardize bid templates, technical solution libraries, and costing tools for crane modernization.
Track bid success rates and contribute to continuous improvement of proposal quality and win probability.

Stay up dated with latest crane modernization technologies, safety standards, and industry trends.

Stakeholder & Customer Engagement
Act as the primary technical-commercial interface during bid clarification and negotiation phases.
Support sales teams with technical presentations, value propositions, and customer-specific solutions.

Maintain strong collaboration with internal engineering and project execution teams to ensure bid assumptions are executable.

Commercial & Costing
Prepare accurate cost models for modernization projects, including material, engineering, installation, testing, and commissioning.
Work closely with sourcing teams to obtain vendor quotations and optimize cost structures.

Identify technical and commercial risks and propose mitigation strategies during bid preparation.

Technical & Application Expertise
Provide technical leadership on crane modernization solutions, with strong focus on:

• Motors (AC, DC replacement, efficiency upgrades)
• Drives (VFDs, soft starters, regenerative drives)
• AC systems and electrical panels
• Brake drums, braking systems, and safety upgrades
• Automation systems (PLC, HMI, sensors, encoders)
• Crane accessories (limit switches, festoon systems, cable reels, remote controls, load monitoring systems.
• Evaluate existing crane systems and propose optimized modernization concepts to improve safety, performance, reliability, and energy efficiency. Support technical clarifications, customer meetings, and pre-bid discussions.

Qualifications for the role

• 8-12 years of experience in crane engineering, modernization, or industrial drive systems
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or related discipline
• Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in bids, proposals, or sales engineering for crane or heavy industrial systems
• Strong knowledge of crane applications and modernization practices
• In-depth understanding of motors, drives, braking systems, automation, and crane electrical systems
• Familiarity with international standards (IS, IEC, FEM, ISO, OSHA - as applicable) Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, single-line diagrams, and specifications.
• Experience with overhead cranes, EOT cranes, gantry cranes, port cranes, or steel/industrial cranes
• Exposure to crane safety upgrades and compliance-driven modernization projects
