Job Description
Bosun for Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger
Responsibilities
The Bosun is responsible for supervising deck crew and ensuring efficient execution of all deck operations onboard the dredger.
Plan, assign, and monitor daily tasks such as mooring, anchoring, towing, and dredging support activities.
Maintain deck equipment including winches, cranes, wires, shackles, and lifting gear in safe working condition.
Ensure proper rigging, slinging, and lifting operations in coordination with officers and crane operators.
Oversee routine maintenance, chipping, painting, greasing, and housekeeping of deck areas.
Conduct toolbox talks and enforce safety procedures and use of PPE during all operations.
Assist in dredging operations including pipeline handling, floating lines, anchors, and spud operations as required.
Monitor condition of ropes, wires, fenders, and ensure timely replacement or repair.
Coordinate with bridge and engine room for smooth operation of deck machinery and work activities.
Ensure compliance with company policies, safety management system (SMS), and permit-to-work procedures.
Train and guide deck ratings (ABs, OS) to maintain high standards of seamanship.
Participate in emergency drills such as fire, man overboard, and abandon ship.
Maintain inventory of deck stores, tools, and consumables, and report requirements.
Ensure safe access arrangements and proper gangway/watchkeeping when alongside or at anchor.
Report any defects, incidents, or unsafe conditions to the Chief Officer promptly.
Qualifications
SYCW training & Rating Forming Part of Navigation Watch certificate.
5-10 years' experience on Dredger.
