Energy / Infrastructure ProjectsContract Type: FreelanceDuration: 12 MonthsSpencer Ogden is supporting a leading organisation in the energy and infrastructure sector in the search for an experienced Project Buyer - Subcontracting to join on a contract basis.This is an excellent opportunity for an independent contractor to work on complex substation and grid infrastructure projects across France, Europe, and Africa, contributing to key energy transition programmes.The RoleAs Project Buyer - Subcontracting, you will take full ownership of the end-to-end procurement of subcontracted services, including civil works, installation, and commissioning.You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure subcontracting strategies are commercially competitive, technically compliant, and aligned with project delivery objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesProcurement & TenderingDevelop and implement subcontracting strategies aligned with project scope and risk profileManage RFQs and competitive tendering processes, including scope definition, BoQs, and evaluation criteriaEvaluate subcontractors based on cost, quality, delivery capability, and technical expertiseConduct detailed bid analysis and benchmarkingContract NegotiationLead or support commercial and contractual negotiationsNegotiate key terms including pricing, milestones, liabilities, warranties, and change mechanismsFinalise subcontract agreements and ensure compliance prior to awardProject Execution SupportSupport subcontractor mobilisation and site readinessMonitor performance across cost, schedule, HSE, and quality KPIsCoordinate interfaces between subcontractors and internal stakeholdersManage deviations, NCRs, and corrective actionsClaims & Risk ManagementManage variations and claims, assessing cost and schedule impactsMaintain contractual documentation to support risk mitigation and dispute avoidanceIdentify procurement risks and implement mitigation strategiesClose-OutSupport subcontract completion and contractual close-outOversee warranty and defect liability follow-upConduct supplier performance evaluations and capture lessons learnedCandidate ProfileExperience & EducationDegree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, Business, or similar7-8 years' experience in procurement of services or works, ideally within EPC, construction, or energy projectsSkills & ExpertiseStrong subcontracting and project procurement experienceProven contract negotiation and administration capabilityStrong commercial awareness with cost and risk analysis skillsExperience within industrial or construction environmentsKnowledge of international contracts and IncotermsProfessional level of EnglishPersonal AttributesHighly organised and accountableStrong communication and stakeholder management skillsComfortable working in international and matrix environmentsAutonomous and solution-orientedDesirableExperience with public procurementFamiliarity with SAP or similar procurement systemsContinuous improvement mindsetWhat's on Offer12-month freelance contract with a leading energy and infrastructure organisationOpportunity to work on major international projectsDynamic and collaborative project environmentCompetitive daily rate (dependent on experience)If you're a freelance procurement professional looking for your next contract, apply now or contact Spencer Ogden for more information.
