Job Description:

What's the role

The Orca Development is a Shell-operated ultra-deepwater Flagship Project located in the prolific pre-salt Santos basin offshore Brazil. The field will be developed with 12 subsea wells tied back to a new building Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit. The FPSO will be in water depths of 2000m, roughly 200km south of Rio de Janeiro.

While Shell is a major producer in Brazil, Orca is critical to extend Shell-operated production into the 2030s. The project will leverage the experience of the FPSO Contractor to supply and operate the FPSO. The FPSO Contractor is one of the foremost suppliers of FPSOs in the world and currently operates more than a dozen FPSOs in Brazil. The FPSO Contractor Detailed Engineering, Procurement and Project Management is centered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, while construction is spread across multiple construction yards in China and Japan, while Installation and Commissioning will be performed offshore Brazil.

Orca contracting is focused on the selection of Tier 1 Contractors to maximize delivery confidence for the FPSO, Subsea Hardware (SSHW) and Umbilical Riser & Flowline (URF) contracts. The project employs a lean Owner's Team with the delivery know-how and commercial acumen to effectively balance "letting the contractor deliver in an area where they are experts" while maintaining expert oversight over critical delivery components of the project to deliver a world class operating asset safely, on time and on budget. Hence, team members must demonstrate the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with Contractors; to implement scaled assurance processes to manage design and execution risks in a pragmatic way; to adapt Shell processes to industry driven solutions while maintaining system integrity and performance; and to work across system and discipline boundaries for best for project solutions.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop and maintain integrated project schedules across all project phases (initiation to execution and closeout), ensuring alignment with project objectives, stakeholder expectations and contractual milestones.
  • Lead schedule planning sessions (WBS, activities, logic, durations, critical path) and ensure accurate input from engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and support functions.
  • Monitor and control project performance, updating schedules, analyzing variances and providing early warnings to project leadership.
  • Perform critical path and scenario analysis, identifying schedule risks, opportunities and mitigation strategies.
  • Produce periodic progress reports including schedule performance metrics, forecasts, slippage analysis and KPIs (e.g., SPI, milestone performance).
  • Ensure planning governance, adhering to corporate project controls standards, processes, templates, and reporting requirements.
  • Interface with contractors and suppliers, validating their schedules, progress updates and compliance with planning requirements.
  • Support change management, assessing schedule impacts of change requests, scope variations and risk events.
  • Drive continuous improvement, enhancing planning tools, methods and project controls maturity.
  • Interface with project disciplines & contractors to ensure the schedule is fully integrated.

What you bring

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Brazil on a full-time basis for anyone other than the current employer
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in planning/scheduling within complex capital projects, acquired preferably in major oil & gas offshore installation projects
  • Proven experience in EPCI/EPC, industrial, energy, oil & gas, infrastructure or similar environments
  • Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 (mandatory) and MS Project
  • Strong understanding of project controls principles, including:
  • Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) development
  • Critical Path Method (CPM)
  • Progress measurement systems
  • Earned Value Management (EVM)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering documents, procurement plans and construction sequences
  • Experience with data analytics and reporting tools
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  • Strong analytical mindset and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to influence without authority and facilitate cross-functional alignment.
  • Proactive, adaptable and oriented to solutions.
