Context & Environment

The position is based at TotalEnergies headquarters in Paris La Defense.

The role encompasses a broad spectrum of responsibilities including technical studies,project support, affiliate support, R&D initiatives and Referential activities.

The engineer collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team of specialists covering design, material, welding, NDT, corrosion, geosciences, structural, etc facilitating the development of advanced technical expertise in pipeline, riser, and cable design, operation, and integrity management.

This position offers comprehensive exposure across the entire lifecycle of subsea and onshore infrastructure, from R&D and conceptual development through detailed engineering, fabrication, installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, operational support, integrity monitoring, and eventual decommissioning.

The role involves cross-functional collaboration with various métiers, including petroleum architects, flow assurance experts, geologists and geophysicists, cost engineers, field operations personnel, HSE professionals, and other technical disciplines. It also requires engagement with external stakeholders such as engineering companies, equipment vendors, EPCI contractors, standards organizations, and other oil and gas operators.

Occasional national and international assignments are integral to the role, involving site visits and technical support to affiliates, vendors, and contractors, as well as participation in industry forums. Field missions, both offshore and onshore, are conducted to support installation campaigns and integrity assessments.

Activities

The role is to
- Conduct development studies for pipelines, risers, flexibles, umbilicals and cables, including screening, conceptual and pre-project phases, for OneTech Customer Lines (Deep Offshore, Conventional Offshore, Onshore, Gas & LNG, Power and CO2) and all TotalEnergies branches.
- Provide support and guidance to project teams throughout the FEED, tendering phase, and project execution stages.
- Provide technical support and expertise to TotalEnergies affiliates on all pipeline installation related questions.
- Drive innovation and lead the development of research and development initiatives focused on pipeline technologies and solutions.
- Contribute to maintaining and updating the Pipeline & Riser Referential (General Specifications).
- The position allows involvement in both our traditional businesses and to participate in the Company energy transition.

The main activities are:

In his Installation and offshore decommissioning speciality:
  • Drafts the technical specifications for the equipment under his/her responsibility
  • May take part in operations and project audits
  • Is independently responsible, within his/her speciality, for pre-project studies and for monitoring project execution, with an influence exceeding 5 M$ on the facilities

Management Activities (within the discipline)
  • Contributes to the preparation of the Budget and to schedule creation
  • Contributes to workload planning
  • Contributes to the QC of the department's deliverables

Client Support Activities
  • Leads development studies, including CFR objectives
  • Participates in FEED and CFT phases (including supplier negotiations)
  • Leads projects during execution phase
  • Contributes to Operations support (fault detection and troubleshooting)
  • Leads specific studies (risk studies, etc.)
  • Leads the development of design bases
  • Participates in internal audits (Operations, PR, etc.)
  • Influences the drafting of technological roadmaps for client lines and innovation
  • Leads technical training
  • Discipline Activities
  • Leads technical coordination (including external contractors and outsourced work)
  • Leads supervision of interns, apprentices, and professional-contract trainees
  • Influences strategic orientations
  • Participates in internal and external recruitment
  • Leads the preparation of Specifications and Purchase Orders
  • Influences HSE analyses (HAZID, HAZOP, REX)
  • Influences standardisation committees (ISO, API, IOGP, etc.)
  • Leads internal TEC innovation
  • Leads technological watch
  • Leads the development of technical databases
  • Participates in drafting the technical sections of contracts (scope, claims)
  • Leads supplier follow-up, technical qualification, quality and HSE (audits)
  • Applies the referential and derogation management processes
  • Leads the internal Network and influences the external Network
  • Contributes to internal promotion/communication of the discipline
  • Contributes to external publications

Candidate Profile

You have a Master's degree or equivalent level and more than 15 years of experience.

You speak fluently English , French is a plus.

You have the following technical skills : lead internal & external networks, deep technical knowledge, capacity to analyze and solve complex projects/technical subjects and drive solutions, capitalize on REX.

Certification required for the position : "- International Standard and Codes related to Pipeline & Risers design and fitness-for-purpose assessment (onshore and offshore). "

Specific knowledge required for the position :

- Detailed knowledge of pipeline installation engineering, including stress analysis, curvature control, laying catenary, and installation feasibility.

- Ability to perform or review installation analyses (S lay, J lay, Reel lay) using industry standard software (e.g. OrcaFlex, OFFPIPE, SIMLA).

- Understanding of hydrodynamic loads, environmental criteria, metocean data and their impact on operations.

- Knowledge of pipeline mechanical behaviour during installation, including overbend, sagbend, abandonment and recovery (A&R), and free-span sensitivity.

- Competence in preparing installation procedures, method statements, engineering reports, task plans, and risk assessments.

- In depth understanding of lay vessel types and capabilities:
  • S lay vessels (e.g. stinger configuration, tensioner layout),
  • J lay towers o Reel-lay vessels and spooling operations,
  • DP pipelay vessels vs anchor spread vessels

- Knowledge of equipment and systems: tensioners, stingers, A&R winches, davits, cranes, ROV systems.

- Ability to perform or review vessel audits, including HSE compliance, certification, deck layout reviews, and readiness verification.

- Mastery of various installation methods, including:
  • S lay, J lay, Reel lay o Tow out, bundle, and towing methods o Bottom pull or shore approach
  • Riser installation (flexibles, jumpers, umbilicals, rigid risers)
  • Knowledge of welding, NDT, and acceptance criteria related to offshore pipelaying.
  • Experience with field joint coating (FJC) and tie in operations.
  • Evaluation of installation methods proposed by contractors, including risk identification and mitigation.
