Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide accounting, reporting, and consolidation expertise. Each day, you will support in accounting and reporting matters to business/reporting units through resolution of accounting and reporting questions, financial statement preparation and review follow-up on accounting issues. You will also showcase your expertise by supporting in the preparation of financial reports in compliance with internal guidelines, procedures, and external regulatory requirements.

The work model for the role is: hybrid.

This role is contributing to the Country Japan local accounting team. Main stakeholders are China Finance & Accounting Operations Hub, Treasury, Tax, Local division Business Controllers, and the local Japan Accounting team, as well as the Finance Manager and the Country Holding Officer.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Contributing to the definition, implementation, and improvement of accounting policies relevant to your area and level of expertise.
• Executing established accounting policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with ABB group policies and local instructions.
• Performing quality checks on financial reporting data submitted by the units, including analytical review of major fluctuations, and liaising with internal and external auditors on accounting and reporting issues.
• Conducting investigations and reconciliation of accounting transaction, as necessary, and facilitating the resolution of accounting and reporting issues.
• Preparing and supporting monthly and quarterly closing, as well as in charge of the Year End Closing end-to-end process and delivery, together with the External Auditors management.

Qualifications for the role

• You are highly skilled in, and you enjoy working with, statutory reporting frameworks, R2R governance methodologies, CFIN‑enabled reporting processes, USGAAP↔JGAAP (S2G) reconciliations, and multinational financial closing standards.
• You have 5-8 years of experience in Japan GAAP year‑end closing, statutory financial statement preparation, external auditor coordination, multi‑GAAP reporting, and cross‑functional accounting execution.
• You possess enhanced knowledge of, and are highly adept in, Japan GAAP statutory formats, disclosure requirements, tax‑effect accounting, financial statement review standards, control documentation, and audit readiness.
• You are passionate about, and captivated by, continuous improvement, accounting integrity, compliance governance, analytical problem‑solving, stakeholder collaboration, and driving enhancements in R2R processes and closing excellence.
• Degree in / Demonstrated track record in / Extensive knowledge or proven experience of Nisshō Boki Level 1, with deeper expertise in Japan GAAP, statutory reporting, tax‑effect accounting, multi‑GAAP reconciliations, and statutory audit coordination. (Tax certification such as Zeirishi is an advantage.)
• You are at ease communicating in Business English and Japanese, ensuring effective alignment with global SMEs, FAO hubs, auditors, and Japan‑based stakeholders.
• You hold the necessary work authorization valid in Japan, along with any licenses required for carrying out statutory and accounting responsibilities in the local finance function.
