Overview
At AtkinsRéalis, our team of ecologists work throughout the UK to deliver a diverse range of challenging and exciting projects that benefit our clients, biodiversity and society.
As we grow and expand our portfolio across Scotland, supporting an increasing pipeline of projects and clients spanning all areas of infrastructure development and upgrade, we are seeking an enthusiastic Ecologist to join our established Glasgow team. This role will support our clients, contribute to the development of new approaches to our work, and offer the opportunity to develop a career across all aspects of project delivery, working on projects that shape Scotland's infrastructure and natural environment.
Joining us, you will have the opportunity to contribute to nationally significant and high-profile projects, with many of our projects winning awards for biodiversity enhancements, innovation, and knowledge sharing. Our ecology team have previously been awarded CIEEM Large-Scale Consultancy of the Year Award and been highly commended over a number of years.

Your role
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of clients' requirements and be able to reach back into the business to get the support required to fulfil those requirements and develop relationships/work.
- Actively seek to engage with other areas of the business, seeking opportunities to cross sell and leverage AtkinsRéalis' capabilities, preparing bids, supporting on strategic opportunities, building client relationships (internal and external) and driving work-winning in the region.
- Identify new opportunities and provide a market-facing role to understand upcoming business requirements.
- Lead on nationally important infrastructure projects, managing project programmes and budgets.
- Design complex mitigation measures.
- Deliver input and technical support into Ecological Impact Assessments, Biodiversity Chapters of Environmental Impact Assessment and Habitat Regulations Appraisals.
- Act as technical reviewer for a range of ecological reports and survey data.
- Provide ecological advice to clients, planners and multi-disciplinary design teams and liaise with stakeholders.
- Have a leadership role managing projects, building client relationships and pipeline.
- Actively identify, raise, manage and mitigate risks, particularly within a Project/Framework environment.
- Provide innovation on projects and within the ecology team.
- Coach, mentor and support other staff members in their development.
About you
- Chartered Ecologist (CEcol) with Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or equivalent (CEnv).
- Ability to apply technical excellence alongside commercial awareness to produce high-quality bid responses, support work-winning, and deliver successful multidisciplinary projects.
- Strong skills in report writing and tender preparation.
- Demonstrable project management experience with complex projects, including technical, financial and quality assurance aspects.
- Excellent knowledge of relevant UK-wide nature conservation legislation and the planning process.
- Experience of undertaking quality assurance and technical lead roles for projects, acting as a specialist or fully qualified professional able to solve complex problems using best practice, promoting continuous improvement.
- At least one protected species licence preferred but not essential and led on one or more mitigation licences.
- Willingness to support business growth and look for new, innovative solutions, including a good knowledge of the wider industry, market opportunities and competition.
- Ability and willingness to travel for to site across Scotland, including a full UK/EEC driving licence.
