JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is seeking a Pre-Contract Commercial Lead to support our Operations business across Australia and Asia Pacific West. This role can be based in one of our key Australian offices in Perth, Melbourne, or Brisbane.

Wood's Operations APAC West business delivers brownfields and maintenance engineering, procurement, construction, optimisation, and technical services to the Oil & Gas sector and enjoys long-term partnerships with the region's most prominent producers located in Western Australia, Northern Territory and South-East Asia.

Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, the primary focus of your role will be to provide day to day commercial support to tendering and pre-contract activities. In this fast-paced role, you will partner with a diverse range of internal stakeholders including operational and functional teams to support commercial risk management and contribute to winning work for Wood.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will be responsible for:
  • Preparing tenders and commercial proposals in accordance with the Client Contract, Wood Policies and Procedures including Tender Governance.
  • Supporting the Post Contract team in the mobilisation and transition of the contract ensuring all commercial and contractual agreements are met.
  • Engaging directly with the Wood Proposals team to identify any clarifications and drafting responses to issue to Client
  • Taking responsibility when delegated to lead the pre-contract commercial team

In addition, you will also:
  • Promote a safe working practices within Commercial function.
  • Work closely with the proposals team to perform pre-award activities including:
    • Commercial review of tender documents
    • Preparing commercial proposals including tender prices and estimates
    • Preparing commercial qualifications and pricing notes
    • Coordinating commercial and legal qualifications
    • Supporting the Tender Governance process at tender preparation, submission and completion stages
    • Leading commercial negotiations with clients and subcontractors
  • Provide support and mentoring to the commercial pre-contract team

Analyse and model corporate cost and overheads elements

QUALIFICATIONS

You will be an Australian citizen or be eligible to hold Permanent Residency (PR) to work lawfully in Australia.

Ideally, you be a driven self-starter who is confident to integrate fully into the contract team.

You will have 5+ years' experience in a commercial role managing on the contractor side within Oil & Gas, Mining, or Infrastructure sector.

An undergraduate degree in business administration, commerce, quantity surveying, construction management (or similar discipline) will be well regarded. This role is a hands on role in which you will be a competent excel user able to design and improve commercial tools to meet different client needs.

In addition, you will have:
  • Knowledge of key contracting concepts, principles and commercial risk management
  • Knowledge of the tendering life cycle and experience in leading commercial proposals and estimates
  • Knowledge and labour pricing both in the professional white collar and trade employee agreements
  • Proven experience in drafting and interpretation of contractual documentation.
  • Exceptional pricing and modelling capabilities. Confident to work to existing models as well as design fit for purpose models for bespoke tenders
  • Understanding of applying different pricing models to various remuneration models
  • Confident presenter and negotiator to both internal stakeholders and external clients
