In this role, you will help our clients - Nuclear Power Utilities - address complex procurement engineering needs by ensuring code-compliant equipment procurement through technical specifications, evaluation, and quality-driven assurance.

Your role
Your purpose
- Working within our Nuclear Division, you will act as the engineering representative for AtkinsRéalis or our Clients, facilitating the procurement of components and equipment that meet the required design intent, applicable codes and standards, and quality assurance expectations.
- In this role you'll work closely with our clients and solve their problems in Supply chain domain. You are expected to establish a rapport and build relationships with others, thereby being instrumental in producing quality deliverables and help win new or repeat work quickly and easily. You'll love to motivate and inspire your team to make things happen. We'd really like to hear from you if you hold a recognised engineering degree.
As a Procurement Engineer, your will be responsible for
Procurement Engineering Support
- Provide technical input and assurance to support client procurement activities across equipment, systems, spares, and services.
- Translate engineering and design requirements into clear, complete, and technically robust procurement specifications.
- Support the preparation and review of technical scopes, data sheets, drawings, and quality requirements for Invitations to Tender (ITTs) and Purchase Orders.
- Technical Evaluation & Assurance
- Perform technical bid evaluations, vendor compliance assessments, and technical clarifications during the tendering process.
- Review vendor documentation to ensure alignment with design intent, applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Support the technical resolution of procurement related queries, deviations, concessions, and non-conformances.
Lifecycle & Asset Considerations
- Support spares analyses, obsolescence assessments, and replacement part evaluations to ensure long term operability and maintainability.
- Perform detailed obsolescence studies to identify technically acceptable replacement options when original components are unavailable.
- Conduct Item Equivalency Evaluations (IEEs) to confirm that alternate items meet design intent, regulatory expectations, and functional requirements.
- Identify Commercial Grade Dedication (CGD) needs and define required tests, inspections, and acceptance criteria to qualify commercial grade items for nuclear service.
- Ensure procurement decisions consider reliability, maintainability, lifecycle impacts, and configuration management requirements.
- Support alignment with asset management systems, cataloguing processes, and material identification where required.
Stakeholder & Client Interface
- Act as a technical interface between engineering, procurement, suppliers, and client teams.
- Support client procurement engineers and buyers with technical advice and engineering judgement.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of procurement engineering processes, standards, and procedures.
- Experience interacting with utilities, OEMs, EPCs, or manufacturing suppliers.
- Awareness of nuclear regulatory requirements affecting design and procurement
About you
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Materials, or equivalent).
- 8 to 10 years of experience in procurement engineering or closely related engineering assurance roles within the nuclear, energy, or complex industrial sectors.
- Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, design documentation, technical specifications, and procurement requirements.
- Understanding of quality assurance principles, inspection requirements, and documentation expectations for safety-related and non-safety-related items.
- Ability to assess vendor documentation, technical proposals, and compliance with design intent and project requirements.
Essential Skills
- Ability to translate design requirements into clear and complete procurement specifications.
- Strong analytical capability to evaluate vendor compliance, assess technical risks, and resolve deviations or technical queries.
- Experience reviewing material certificates, test reports, and vendor manufacturing/inspection documentation.
- Skilled in applying lifecycle engineering considerations such as obsolescence, replacement strategy, and configuration control.
- Effective communication skills to interface with engineering, procurement, suppliers, and client teams.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience supporting procurement activities in regulated or complex industries (e.g., nuclear, energy, infrastructure, or critical industrial facilities).
- Working knowledge of industry codes and standards relevant to nuclear and industrial procurement, including:
- ASME Section II - Materials specifications
- ASME Section III - Nuclear construction requirements
- ASME Section V - NDE requirement
- ASME Section IX - Welding & Brazing Qualifications (WPS, PQR, WPQ)
- ASME B31.1 / B31.3 - Power & Process piping
- Experience performing obsolescence studies, Item Equivalency Evaluations (IEEs), and Commercial Grade Dedication (CGD) activities.
- Familiarity with configuration management systems, document control processes, and asset cataloguing.
