Deputy Departmental Safety Officer

We're looking for a motivated individual to join our Department of Chemistry safety team, supporting safe and innovative teaching and research. You'll work closely with academics, researchers, and students, becoming a visible and trusted presence across laboratory environments.

This role offers a structured training programme and personalised development plan, with clear progression into a safety professional career. Professional memberships (e.g., IOSH/ISTR) are fully funded, and you'll be part of a supportive safety community across the Division.
You'll contribute to promoting a strong safety culture, delivering inductions and training, supporting risk assessments, assisting with hazardous waste management, and helping with inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
We're looking for someone with a background in chemistry, an understanding of laboratory hazards, strong communication skills, and a proactive, detail-focused approach. A willingness to learn and gain professional certifications such as NEBOSH is essential.
