In what environment will you work as a Process Safety Engineer (M/F)?

We are recruiting, on behalf of one of our clients in the chemical/pharmaceutical industry, a Process Safety Engineer (M/F) to be based in Switzerland for an initial contract assignment, with the potential to transition into a permanent position (CDI) directly with the client thereafter.

Mission context

The purpose of this role is to ensure effective control of industrial and chemical risks at a manufacturing site through rigorous process risk assessments (HAZOP, LOPA) and the interpretation of thermal safety test results. The position plays a key role in preventing major accidents, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing direct support to operational teams.

Process Safety Engineer (M/F): What will be your roles and responsibilities?

Reporting to the HSE / Process Safety Department, your main responsibilities will include:
  • Process Risk Assessments: Conduct and update process hazard analyses (HAZOP, What-If, LOPA, etc.) for production units and new projects.
  • Thermal Safety: Interpret thermal safety testing results (DSC, C80, RC1) to develop practical process safety solutions for industrial operations.
  • Compliance & Standards: Implement and monitor process safety standards in accordance with the company's EHS policy, and participate in regulatory audits (ATEX, Seveso, etc.).
  • Management of Change (MOC) & Projects: Participate in equipment design reviews and verify process safety compliance for technical modifications and capital investment projects.
  • Operational Support: Provide day-to-day technical support to operations and maintenance teams on topics such as inerting, pressure and temperature management, and chemical compatibility.
  • Process Safety Culture: Deliver process safety training and awareness programs, and work closely with Engineering, Production, and local regulatory authorities.


What profile and skills are required for this Process Safety Engineer (M/F) position?

Experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in a chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, with proven expertise in process safety studies.


Skills & Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, ATEX, and deviation analysis methodologies.
  • Familiarity with international standards and guidelines, including API, CCPS, IEC 61511, and Seveso.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and equipment specifications.
  • Strong analytical mindset, scientific rigor, proactive approach, autonomy, and excellent communication and training skills.
  • Languages: Fluent French and technical English, with the ability to read and write HSE documentation.


Education
  • Engineering degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
