HSE Manager Japan

Reporting to the Chief Sustainability Officer and Country Head, you will be responsible for providing advice, guidance and support to the Country Head and project sites to enable them to operate in accordance with all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) laws and regulations, and the Gurin Energy HSE policies, standards and procedures.

You will have a collaborative and pro-active approach, with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. You will be a persuasive communicator, with strong organisational and people skills.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

• Support the Country Head and the project sites teams to maintain and continually improve HSE performance, and ensure compliance to the legal and company requirements
  

• Promote and develop a HSE culture throughout all projects, operations and the supply chain
  

• Develop, implement and maintain a HSE Management System (HSEMS), aligned to the Corporate HSEMS, at each project site
  

• Participate in management reviews of the site HSEMS to verify effectiveness, and provide support to update in line with changes in laws and regulations and company requirements
  

• Ensure consistent application and communication of HSE policies, procedures, practices and initiatives, while referring to site senior management
  

• Develop and deliver HSE induction and other required HSE training to new and current employees, and develop and deliver HSE expectations/ induction to contractors, visitors and other third parties
  

• Conduct accident investigation and monitor implementation of corrective and preventative actions, share learnings, and analyse data to identify trends and implement continuous improvement to reduce reoccurrence
  

• Monitor and review HSE performance through site inspections, audits and other, and identify findings and areas for improvement on a routine basis
  

• Support site operations to ensure that HSE risk and legal registers are established and are routinely reviewed; and relevant HSE permits and licenses are maintained
  

• Establish, attend and coordinate HSE Committee meetings
  

• Provide support and advise on HSE requirements in the tender processes for construction and operation and maintenance (O&M)
  

• Oversee and monitor construction projects, and attend the project HSE Committee meetings
  

• Prepare and deliver reports on HSE performance (projects and operations) aligned to company targets/
  

• Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant HSE laws and regulations, best practices and communicate relevant changes
  

• Any other appropriate duties that may be assigned from time to time.
  

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

• Minimum 10 years' experience
  

• Degree in HSE, Occupational Health and Safety or related area, and/or NEBOSH International General Certificate
  

• Construction safety certification/ accreditation
  

• Knowledge of IFC Performance Standards and working experience in the renewable energy industry would be beneficial, but not essential
  

• Possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills
  

• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  

• Professional approach, coupled with strong interpersonal skills
  

• Flexible and self-motivated
