Phillips 66 & YOU - Together we can fuel the future

As a Director, Process: Distillation, Heat Transfer, and Crude/Vacuum Units on our Refining Process technology team, you will help our refineries run safely, reliably, and efficiently. You will connect long-term refining strategy to practical improvements, guiding teams through complex technical challenges. In this role, you'll partner across sites and functions, shaping high-impact solutions that strengthen our competitive position and elevate performance across the refining system.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the technical agenda, setting a clear vision, standards, and priorities that align with company strategy and demonstrate a consistent commitment to safety, ethics, and doing what is right.
  • Develop, coach, and coordinate a network of refinery process engineers, building cohesive, high-performing teams that share best practices, learn from one another, and deliver consistent, high-quality results across sites.
  • Be a key member of a portfolio of high-impact studies and projects from needs assessment and feasibility through design, implementation, and optimization, taking accountability for outcomes, tracking progress, and adjusting plans to meet business objectives.
  • Design and refine complex process solutions, including column internals, Desalter optimization, Vacuum Tower overhead systems, heat integration schemes, fired heater performance, and energy-efficiency improvements, using advanced engineering tools and data to validate concepts, manage risk, and ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulations.
  • Partner closely with refinery operations, technical, maintenance, projects, and commercial teams to break down silos, integrate work plans, and ensure expertise is embedded in day-to-day operations, turnarounds, and capital projects.
  • Lead structured troubleshooting and root cause investigations for challenging issues, providing clear direction amid incomplete or conflicting information and helping teams navigate uncertainty with focus and discipline.
  • Use data, engineering judgment, and business insight to drive timely, well-reasoned decisions on technology selection, process changes, and investment options, knowing when to decide independently and when to escalate for broader input.
  • Establish and steward knowledge management that encourages innovation, supports continuous improvement, and makes it easier for teams to apply lessons learned across the refining system.

What You'll Bring - Required
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 10 or more years of experience in process engineering with a focus on distillation, fractionation, heat exchangers or crude/vacuum units
  • Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodations, to comply with the following:
    • Travel up to 25%
    • Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet
    • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines, around chemicals and hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat, and in harsh weather conditions
    • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment

What Makes You Stand Out - Preferred
  • Master's degree or equivalent level of education
  • 15 or more years of experience in refining or closely related process industries, with deep distillation and heat transfer expertise
  • Fractionation modeling and tray rating experience preferred
  • Experience leading enterprise or multi-site initiatives focused on distillation performance, energy efficiency, or margin improvement
  • Proven track record designing and troubleshooting complex distillation systems, including column revamps, heat integration projects, and debottlenecking efforts
  • Background in feasibility studies and business case development for major process changes or capital projects
  • Experience building and sustaining communities of practice or technical networks that share knowledge and align standards across multiple locations
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through change, collaborate across organizational boundaries, and scale strong leadership behaviors such as accountability, inclusive teaming, and sound decision making
