Job Description

Hill International is seeking an Estimator in Seattle, Washington

The Estimator is responsible for independent cost estimate development across all design phases, from pre-design through final design, and provides change order estimating and review support during the construction phase. The role requires proficiency in developing well-documented estimates at each design milestone, with a strong understanding of both design-build and design-bid-build project delivery methods and their associated technical documents, including drawings, specifications, contractor price proposals, and vendor and subcontractor quotes.

The Estimator must demonstrate a thorough understanding of market and labor conditions and their direct impact on project cost, with the ability to assess, analyze, and incorporate those factors into estimate development and cost positions. The Estimator will also serve as a core contributor to value engineering workshops and risk assessments, providing cost inputs and reviewing outputs for consistency with the overall project estimate.

Responsibilities

  • Develop cost estimates (Class V through Class I) and respond to requests for explanations, clarifications, and revisions.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and team resource for cost information (e.g., unit costs), industry trends, analysis of options, and appropriate incorporation of contingencies and allowances. Analyze design documentation, blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates. Participate in constructability workshops and advise.
  • Prepare estimates of all major and minor construction aspects including overall scope of work, time, and materials. Review vendor or subcontractor estimates.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as budget planning, scheduling work, and organizing.
  • Support the cost engineer in preparing cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
  • Suppose cost engineering in the set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Assist the project team in contract negotiations
  • Review contractor change requests and assist in claims support


Qualifications

  • Must have a minimum of 10 years' experience.
  • Four year college degree is preferred

The salary range for this position is $135,000 - $170,000. The salary offered will be based on the applicant's qualifications, education, experience and work location.
