This is for a Sr. Advisor - Automation & Systems Integration (Technical Excellence) within the Systems Integration group

The position is based in our offices in Houston, TX on a Hybrid basis with regular travel throughout the region as required.

The Role

The Sr. Advisor - Automation & Systems Integration (Technical Excellence) within the Systems Integration group reports to the Regional Director of Systems Integration and will provide strategic and technical guidance on a flexible, ad-hoc basis. This role brings decades of delivery experience and supports the business through targeted, high-value contributions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Objectives

1. Strategic & Technical Advisory
  • Provide independent, senior-level technical guidance across automation and systems integration projects (DCS, SIS, PLC, OT systems).
  • Specialized areas supported include (but are not limited to) Industrial Cybersecurity and Fired Heaters
  • Advise on complex design decisions, architecture, and integration strategies to ensure robust, future-ready solutions.
  • Support development of standardization, innovation, and digital integration approaches.

2. Proposal & Business Development Support
  • Contribute to high-value proposals and pursuits, strengthening technical credibility and differentiators.
  • Review and challenge solution strategies, execution plans, and commercial assumptions.
  • Participate in client-facing engagements where senior technical authority enhances trust and confidence.

3. Project Assurance & Risk Mitigation
  • Perform independent project reviews, health checks, and peer assists at key milestones.
  • Identify technical, execution, and integration risks and advise on mitigation strategies.
  • Support recovery planning for at-risk or complex programs.

4. Mentorship & Knowledge Transfer
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to engineering and project delivery teams.
  • Share lessons learned from past major projects to enhance team capability and delivery discipline.
  • Contribute to succession planning and capability development within the organization.

5. Governance & Quality Oversight
  • Support compliance with engineering standards, best practices, and safety requirements.
  • Provide guidance on functional safety, cybersecurity, and regulatory considerations.
  • Act as a technical authority in governance reviews and decision forums.


QUALIFICATIONS

Expected:
  • 25+ years of experience in automation, control systems, and systems integration.
  • Proven track record as a Technical Director, Engineering Manager, or equivalent senior leadership role.
  • Deep expertise across industrial sectors (energy, chemicals, oil & gas, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of DCS/PLC platforms, SIS, OT cybersecurity, and digital integration (IT/OT).
  • Demonstrated experience in major project delivery, complex integrations, and multi-disciplinary coordination.
  • Recognized as a trusted technical leader with strong client credibility.

Engagement Model
  • Contract / On-Demand Engagement
  • Flexible, ad-hoc involvement aligned to business needs (proposals, reviews, critical issues).
  • May include remote support with occasional travel for key workshops, client meetings, or project reviews.
