Job Description
Unit Role: The DIO UK DTE has the responsibility for the management of property, infrastructure and related services to ensure strategic management of the Defence Estate as a whole, optimising investment and, critically supporting military capability to the best effect.
Position Role: The STSO at CPTA is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day delivery of the safe place to train, supporting a safe training environment for authorised users, to support the endorsed and contingent training requirements of Defence. The post holder will ensure all ranges and Fieldcraft Training Areas (FTA) are compliant in accordance with DSA OME Pt 03 and ensure 'safe place' in accordance with JSP 375 Chapter 40 (Military Training for Land Systems) on the training estate at all times. The post holder will provide users, the DIO and Industry Partners, advice and guidance to enable them to achieve optimum training benefit whilst ensuring optimal use of the training estate.
Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrate a personal commitment to the DIO Guiding Principles.
2. Develop team members and assist line managers in delivering departmental goals.
3. Ensure local compliance with mandatory requirements e.g. H&S training.
4. Promote strong working relationships both within the team and with other teams across DIO and MoD.
5. Ensure all training facilities are compliant in accordance with DSA OME Pt 03 for all Defence Ranges and Training Areas.
6. Ensure 'safe place' is applied in accordance with JSP 375 Chapter 40 (Military Training for Land Systems) to all ranges and training areas.
7. Lead for all range and training related safety issues including production of all risk assessments and owner of the CPTA risk register.
8. Ensure Standing Orders for Ranges and FTA are in-date.
9. Support and advise all mandatory range and training inspections and enact all recommendations as appropriate.
10. Monitor all contracted range and training facility maintenance programmes to ensure full availability and identify variances and failures.
11. Act as the Intelligent Supplier to authorised trainers by providing safety briefs and advice on how to achieve optimum training given the types of weapons, ammunition and pyrotechnics users intend to employ.
12. Maintain effective liaison with DIO and local stakeholders, specifically the Environment Agency and Natural England.
13. Support the Commander in managing external stakeholders by maintaining a positive dialogue which safeguards the reputation of the MOD.
14. Manage and de-conflict competing users' aspirations for training so as to minimise conflict, maximise optimum training benefit and ensure users achieve their training objectives through an understanding of their training objectives and relative priorities.
15. Nights out of bed for safety briefs and advisory visits, recces and incident response to units may be required.

Domestic Considerations: Ability to travel extensively across DTE SE. Occasional absence from home to attend mandated training and conferences at other UK DTE sites.
