The Project Scientist / Geologist / Engineer will support the Building and Construction business by overseeing the Environmental projects in the Jacksonville Region.
The Building & Construction team provides assurance, testing, inspection, and certification services and building science solutions to deliver Total Quality Assurance to the built environment. The team offers the architectural, engineering and construction (A/E/C) industry with a full suite of capabilities both in the lab and on site.
Position Responsibilities:
The position will require the applicant to have a strong understanding and ability to manage several of the following project types, with at least a basic understanding of the others and a willingness to learn and grow until proficient.
- Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)
- FDEP Petroleum Restoration Program (PRP) projects
- Soil and Groundwater Assessments
- Underground Storage Tanks (UST) and Leaking Underground Storage Tanks (LUST) projects
- Soil gas and vapor encroachment assessment
- Industrial Hygiene (Asbestos, Mold, and Lead Based Paint) Assessments
Position Requirements:
The position will require the applicant to have experience and ability to perform the following activities associated with completion of most of the above project types, with at least a basic understanding of the others and a willingness to learn and grow until proficient.
- Ability to perform field sample collection in accordance with federal, state, and local guidances
- Ability to prepare technical proposals and reports
- Ability to communicate with clients and regulatory agencies to ensure work is meeting contractual and regulatory goals and objectives
- Ability to self-manage and make decisions during all phases of a project with the support of a senior technical leader
- Ability to understand, track, and manage project budgets
- Initiate and develop solid relationships with clients towards the goal of building business in local market
What it takes to be successful in this role:
- Requires a minimum Bachelors degree in one or more of the following: Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related Science
- Minimum of 7 years of related experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration/certification or Professional Geologist (PG) is preferred, but not required
- Must be able to perform tasks in varying field/office conditions
- Must be computer literate and able to operate most field/office equipment relating to one’s discipline
- Strong technical proposal and report writing abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record (required)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, (hearing) and to make the discriminations in sound
- Ability to kneel and squat occasionally
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)
- Ability to climb ladders occasionally
