Primary purpose of job
Manage the operations on four offshore drilling or workover units rigs including the
monitoring and management of drilling contractors and resolving operational problems in
cooperation with two subordinate Superintendents; ensure that the drilling or intervention
objectives are achieved in a safe and efiicient manner.
1.Lead the team of two superintendents who oversee and manage the activities on all
offshore drilling rigs (three jack-up drilling rigs and one lift boat) engaged in drilling,
workover and intervention activities in offshore fields.
2. Ensure that all drilling operations are conducted safely and efficiently in accordance with
the approved drilling programme and the Drilling Reference Manual (DRM) to
ensure that drilling, workover and intervention operations are planned and programmed
correctly and thereaft er efficiently executed.
3. Provide advice and support to the Superintendents and when necessary take the lead to
manage and solve critical operational problems. This will involve the detailed analysis of
operational data and the coordination of input from other colleagues in other
departments including: Field Development and Well lntegrity.
4. Communicate clear expectations and agree Key Performance Indicators KPls with the
Superintendents and their rig based operational teams. Analyse and report performance
against these objectives and KPls and take required action to achieve the agreed
targets.
5. lnstil a performance culture within the operational team (including contractor personnel)
by setting high standards and expectations for flawless execution and encouraging the
team to deliver continuous performance improvement.
6. Manage HSE aspects of all offshore drilling and workover rigs by enforcing the
requirements of the Drilling Reference Manual DRM. Lead the accident investigation
teams for all high potential onshore rig incidents including all Lost Time lncidents and
ensure lessons are captured and corrective action is taken across all drilling related
operations.
7. Participate in management level meetings with the Drilling Managers of other operating
companies in Qatar and with the Drilling Managers in the GCC countries to capture
operational best practices and learning points from other operators to benefit the
operation.
8.Contribute to the formulation of strategies and operational plans including contracting
strategies to achieve the offshore drilling objectives, thereafter ensure that the
Superintendents develop realistic action plans to achieve annual objectives.
9.Review and approve technical specifications and pricing structures for any new drilling
or service contracts to ensure that contracted services are fit for purpose and include
up{o-date technology and equipment and appropriate rate structures.
10. Perform the annual and semi-annual performance reviews of the Superintendents in
accordance with the process to enhance the productivity of the Operational team
superintendents and rig based DSVS and to identify development and training needs.
Experience & Skills
An experienced professional with at least 15 years experience in offshore drilling and
workover operations including 5 years as an Offshore Drilling Supervisor and 5 years as
an Offshore Drilling Superintendent.
Proven leadership and people management skills with a keen awareness of cultural
sensitivities and a passion for managing HSE.
Strong communication skills in English demonstrated verbal and written skills
High energy and enthusiasm for delivering outstanding performance, with a can do
attitude and proven track record in drilling and workover operations.
Tendering and contracting experience.
Education
BSc in Petroleum Engineerrng or equivalent.
IWCF Certified.
