Under the direction of a Lead Modeler or Senior Lead Modeler or supervisor of the Modeling team, assist in developing Hull Inspection, Hull Maintenance or Virtual Vessel databases.
What You Will Do:
- Digitizes the steel structures into a 3D model from construction drawings of ships in PDF format.
- Digitizes the hull form and creates a HECSALV model from construction drawings of ships in PDF format.
- Completes Hull Inspection model and setups databased with Hull Inspection Admin Tool.
- Assists in the development of Structural Critical Area Knowledge libraries and application of critical areas to the structural model databases.
- Assists in creating Virtual Vessel databases on selected projects from information found in O2E Engineering and Survey database systems.
- Communicates the status of the current workload to all appropriate members of the team to ensure the needs of the clients will be met.
- Works as a team member within the group. May work autonomously, once trained, with minimal supervision.
- May propose new approaches to problems encountered and make recommendations for changes in methods and procedures.
- Participates in related training seminars.
- Undergoes ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management System training and applies TQM principles in the work environment.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
- Diploma or Associate degree in CAD Drafting, CAD Design, Graphics, or equivalent specialization as a minimum,
- Three (3) or more years in one or more of the CAD modeling software such as SmartMarine 3D (preferred), AutoCAD, Solid Works, Creo, Aveva’s TRIBON, CATIA, Pro-E, Ship Constructor, or equivalent experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience reading ship or offshore structure drawings and working knowledge of basic ship orientation and terminology.
- Ability to communicate, orally and in writing.
- Ability to analyze problems and propose solutions.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Needs to be familiar with the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management System.

The incumbent will report to the Supervisor/Manager or delegate, Modeling Center.
