Wind Project Engineer

Petroplan are pleased to be working alongside a reputable independent power producer (IPP) specialised in the renewable energy sector based in Cape Town.

The Wind Project Engineer manages, on behalf of the IPP, all the multi-disciplinary engineering aspects of wind projects during the transaction and execution phases of the projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing and coordinating the inputs and support of the IPP's multi-disciplinary project engineering team which includes various engineering discipline specialists / leads.
  • Participate in technical and commercial evaluation and negotiations with EPC Contractors, TSA Contractors and O&M Contractors
  • Managing and coordinating the LTA's technical due diligence.
  • Liaising, on behalf of the IPP, with Eskom for grid connection self-build works including managing, in combination with the EPC Contractor, the Eskom approval processes.
  • Co-ordinating the compilation of Employer's performance based technical specifications and Employer's Requirements.
  • The compilation of RFP / RFQ documents (drawings, specifications, returnable documents) for EPC and O&M Contractors.
  • Co-ordinating technical reviews of the EPC and TSA Contractor's AFC design reports and drawings.
  • Ensuring that the EPC Contractor's and TSA Contractor's designs and installations meet the client's requirements and all the relevant safety regulations.
  • Overviewing the Contractor's Grid Code Compliance design and process.
  • Management of project technical queries, including design interface management between the TSA and BoP Contractors.
  • Conduct frequent (minimum monthly, likely bi-weekly) site visits to review contractor's performance.
  • Participate in project progress meetings.
  • Co-ordinate IPP's monthly progress reports.
  • Review, in combination with Quality Manager, Construction Manager and Site Supervisors, the Contractor's QA/QC processes.
  • Technical support to Project Managers, Construction Managers, Site Supervisors, Quality Managers and Commissioning Managers for site construction and commissioning activities.
  • Support to the Construction Managers and Project Managers for certifying completion for Contractor's milestone payments
  • Ensuring at all times technical compliance of the wind projects with PPA (Power Purchase Agreement), SBA (Self Build Agreement), BQ (Budget Quote), DCUOSA and all other Project Documents
  • The overarching responsibility of the wind project engineer is to contribute to the successful execution of our client'wind projects, achieving financial close for the projects and executing the projects to achieve COD and Facility Acceptance within budget and within the required timelines.


Minimum Educational Qualifications:

  • BSc Engineering or National Diploma (NDip) Engineering (Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical)
  • Pr Eng or Pr Tech or equivalent chartered engineer qualification


Minimum Previous Experience:

  • 15 years' experience in major engineering infrastructure projects
  • 5 years' experience in renewable generation projects
  • 3 years' experience in wind farm projects
  • 5 years engineering design experience
  • 2 years construction or site supervision experience


Essential skills:

  • Proficient in one of electrical, civil or mechanical engineering with basic knowledge of other engineering disciplines
  • Project Management and Engineering Management
  • AutoCAD
  • Microsoft Office literate
  • Basic knowledge of Eskom distribution and transmission systems


Other advantageous skills:

  • Knowledge of engineering and construction contracts
  • H&S experience and training


Languages

  • English (Read, write & speak)
