Our client, a major Oil and Gas company, is looking for a Geology & Geophysics Technologist to work on a 12-months contract in Houston, TX.
Job Description
The successful candidate will support the MCBU Wells G&G Ops team who provides our Wells planning and operations team with Mechanical Earth Models, subsurface hazards identification and mitigations, and real-time support for casing depth calls and geological non-productive time.
This role will work closely with Geologist and Geophysicists and needs to have oil and gas industry experience. The position requires a high energy individual who is self-motivated, works independently as well as in teams, and has demonstrated the ability to multi-task and use independent judgment within the scope of his/her responsibility. The individual should be able to discreetly and routinely handle confidential information, and establish a positive and professional working relationship with and communicate among team members, customers, and other staff members. No business travel is required. Core responsibilities will include:
- Data management within applications like Petrel, Techlog, StarSteer SOLO, and Drillplan
- Process improvements relating to data gathering, organizing, manipulating, and storing
- Petrotechnical Application support (Petrel, Techlog, Starsteer)
- MS Power Platform support (PowerBI, PowerApp, Power Automate)
- Administrative support while maintaining a high level of confidentiality surrounding any sensitive information/data and supporting other team members, as required
- Drafts, formats, and revises technical documents and proofreads them to assure accuracy and coherency
- Generates reports, presentations, and other communications, as required
- Adhere to organizational structure in support of one team approach - includes utilizing team tracking tools and attend all team meetings
- Assists with other duties and special projects, as assigned by supervisor and other team members
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years of experience in Earth Science (Geology & Geophysics) and/or a Wells (Drilling & Completions) group
- Advanced MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Must be in proficient in Excel and able to analyze data, create pivot tables and charts
- Must be able to communicate in a clear, concise, and effective manner, orally, and in writing; listens and takes directions quickly; maintains tactful and professional demeanor in all situations with all levels at the company and outside organizations
- Strong organization skills and attention to details are crucial
- Ensure quality results when proofing documents so they are error-free and returned to the customers within the timeframe requested
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Takes initiative and is a team player
- Good interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current Technologist
- Worked with Petrel, Techlog, StarSteer SOLO, and/or DrillPlan
- Proficient in SharePoint, Database entry, operations daily reporting systems, and other drilling & completions software applications and data management
- Managed and/or developed products in the MS Power Platform
