Freedom is looking for a Senior Surveyor to join the Freedom Survey Operations team. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic problem solver with the ability to learn quickly. Our agile working environment will require an innovative, curious candidate who has the problem solving and communication skills to improve the way surveyors’ work. This position will be rotational with two to three years on the team prior to moving back out to the field or other corporate department. This is a great growth opportunity within ABS and will give you an opportunity to improve operational effectiveness that will give you exposure to working with front line leaders as well as with the forward-looking technology group.
What You Will Do:
- Acts as a professional specialist for the organization in the application of related rules, regulations, requirements, concepts, principles and processes.
- Responsible for creation of requirements and the communication and clarification of same to the development team. Creation of requirements may also entail meeting with various stakeholders for clarifications.
- Project management for implementation of Freedom projects as directed. In conjunction with IMS, responsible for all aspects of assigned implementation projects including planning, execution, and support.
- Develops system acceptance testing criteria and documentation of test results.
- Engages in contact with Freedom users to resolve problems within area of expertise.
- Supports maintenance of Freedom in an orderly and up-to-date manner in area of responsibility.
- Advocates design improvements by promoting new and innovative ideas to improve operational efficiency
- Maintains active awareness of new methods and developments affecting the technical scope of assigned responsibilities and makes recommendations for changes in the surveying processes and safety programs as warranted by such developments. Recommends new approaches to problems encountered and makes changes in methods, procedures or design where necessary.
- Responsible for ensuring products are in compliance with all company standards.
- Meets and confers with all levels of software management to monitor customer satisfaction with company services/products and to provide input to project identification, prioritization, staffing and scheduling to meet company needs and objectives.
- Communicates project status, concerns, etc. to supervisors and/or senior management.
- Provides leadership, guidance and training to Freedom users.
- Promotes the services and capabilities of ABS Freedom to users.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or recognized equivalent in an appropriate technical discipline is preferred; should have previous related marine industry experience and appropriate certification and/or licenses in the specialization.
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience working as a Surveyor II.
- Understanding of ABS strategic technical positioning in their respective sector of the marine industry or
- Minimum eight (8) years’ experience in an Engineering or Survey Capacity with an IACS member Classification Society.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to develop a working knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, as well as the ABS Employee Safety Policy.
- Knowledge of computer programs or software packages related to job responsibilities (Freedom).
- Agile Software Development training or related experience is a plus
- Knowledge of ships' engineering systems and machinery.
- Ability to communicate, orally and in writing, pertinent information relative to assigned area of technical expertise.
- Ability to analyze problems and propose solutions.
- Responsiveness to customers.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management System.
Reporting Relationships:
The incumbent reports to a senior-level surveyor under the direction of the Survey Manager, District/Country Manager, or Regional Vice President, as appropriate. May supervise other surveyors or clerical support staff as applicable.
Working Conditions:
Work will normally be performed in an air-conditioned office environment and will be non-manual in nature.
Limited Time Additional Incentive Program:
- Maintain company vehicle for up to 24 months max
- $5,000 onboarding bonus (minus applicable taxes and deductions)
- An assignment timebox of not less than 24 months but not more than 48 months
- Upon completion of the assignment, a completion bonus of:
- $2,500 for 24 months
- $4,000 for 36 months
- $5,500 for a 48-month limit
- Choice of port assignment within availability and constraints.
