Job Title: Senior Water Specialist

Location: Tumbler Ridge, BC

Schedule / Terms of Employment: This is a full time (40 hours/week), permanent position

Primary Purpose

The Senior Water Specialist is responsible for leading the development of Water Management Plans and water management strategies, updating, using and interpreting Water Balance models to support sustainable operations, In alignment with compliance requirements.

Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team to develop Water Management Plans and strategies that are consistent with business, regulatory, and Conuma water management requirements
- Integrate with the water treatment team to develop water treatment solutions to meet compliance requirements
- Build, maintain and implement operational and long-term Water Balance Models through Goldsim, excel and other software programs
- Inform and advise on water treatment technologies and identify opportunities for increased effectiveness and operations of those treatment technologies.
- Provide senior level technical review of permitting applications and regulatory submissions and ensure regulatory commitments relating to water management plans are met
- Implement water management tools, in alignment with long term water management strategies and regulatory authorizations
- Develop proactive processes, for water management as part of mine planning to deliver efficiencies in mine development, operations, and regulatory authorizations
- Proactively manage risks from project findings and risks associated with water quality modelling and Conuma operations
- Prepare and submit all necessary data and reports to meet regulatory and other commitments, including presentation of technical information to a variety of audiences
- Identify areas for innovation to ensure continuous improvement of water management framework across all Conuma sites.
- Collaborate with the Engineering, Operations, Processing, Permitting and other Business Unit teams to inform water management decisions
- Identify water management issues and undertake analysis to support responsible decision making.
- Manage projects, budget and timelines and contracts related to water management.
Skills & Experience
Engineering or Science Degree in environment, geochemistry, hydrology, hydrogeology, or related field with a post-graduate qualification preferred
o Minimum of five years hydrology (surface water) experience, preferably in the mining industry
o Experience with water treatment in mining will be an asset
o Experience leading development and implementation of water management plans and programs (eg. Goldsim), and risk evaluation of water quality and quantity
o Technical knowledge of federal and provincial mining water practices and regulations is required
o Minimum five to ten years’ demonstrated experience in roles of progressively increasing responsibility in project management and delivery
o Professional designation and meet the BC provincial requirements of a qualified professional in a water-related field, or eligible, is an asset
o Proven team leading skills
o Proficient in environmental analysis and reporting
o Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to relate to all levels internally and externally, and in both formal and informal settings
o Ability to thrive in a team environment
o Ability to influence, supervise, coach, and lead a team of professionals
o Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, including leading change, and making recommendations
