About this role: Environmental Advisor

Environmental Advisor role based in Docklands Melbourne working with a global leader in the energy market.

The main functions of the environmental advisor will be to inspect basic maintenance and testing of multimedia (air, water and solid) portable environmental monitoring equipment used in an oil complex including stack monitoring equipment, PID, FID analyzers, etc., maintaining inventory of spares for these equipment, record keeping of all related items managed by the environmental team. Environmental and regulatory technical support.

  • Participates in the preparation of HSE Inspection plans, HSE Campaigns and other HSE activities.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to lower level technicians.
  • Compliance with Laws, Regulations and Permits ensuring System documentation is up to date to enable System functionality.
  • Monitor regulatory developments to ensure Company interests are protected.
  • Coordinate quarterly stewardship reviews with SSHE management.
  • Inform the appropriate department management of regulatory requirements that affect their function.
  • Liaise with relevant Subject Matter Contacts (SMC) and Law Department on interpretation of draft, new, amended or existing laws and regulations.
  • Liaise with Law Department regarding compliance issues with potential for escalation.
  • Review potentially applicable regulatory amendments as provided by various third party vendors.
  • Assist Subject Matter Experts with the preparation of Compliance Plans to address new or amended regulation.
  • Interface with the Training and Procedures Group to develop, design and administer specific regulatory and awareness training if needed



    What you need to bring:

    • Experience with an oil and gas company in the SSHE and/or regulatory compliance field, preferably related to a construction or extractive industry, project or other international construction with environmental, regulatory, socioeconomic, and/or health aspects.
    • Degree in Environmental or Natural Sciences, Natural Resource Management or with Technical, Science, Environmental Science, Technology or related discipline, is preferred but not mandatory and technical field related to SSHE management.
    • Understand basic industry project construction principles and techniques (upstream petroleum industry preferred)
    • Candidates should have good interpersonal skills, some supervisory/organizational talents, and proven ability to work in a positive team manner, hardworking attitude / commitment towards achieving project objective,
    • Self-confidence to instruct contractors/project workers regarding regulatory compliance and Safety, Health Environment and Security (SHE&S) performance/ implementation requirements.
    • Environmental, Regulatory, Safety, Health processes and Government Affairs/Regulatory Compliance and tool knowledge
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint for reporting; advanced user with Adobe for document management
