About the role

Working for our Intertek Robotic Laboratories (IRL) division, our Automation Technicians provide high quality automated laboratory services to our client, utilising their technical knowledge and skills to safely carry out the installation, commissioning, maintenance and operational support for Automated Laboratories and laboratory equipment.

The position is a fly in fly out position requiring the successful applicant to work a 12 hour shifts - 8 days on, 6 days off; 7 nights on, 7 days off rotating roster.

Duties

The successful applicant will assist the existing Intertek Robotics Laboratory team with primary responsibilities of the role to include:
  • Operation, maintenance, and fault finding of both manual and automated laboratory equipment
  • Provide ongoing systems training to other Intertek employees to equip staff with the knowledge, practical skills, and motivation to carry out work-related tasks
  • Perform preventative, routine and breakdown maintenance tasks and maintain company records
  • Identify maintenance requirements, including the ability to assess the urgency of the maintenance issue, recognize common types of maintenance requirements
  • Utilising preventative maintenance systems to maintain the plant and equipment
  • Run basic checks according to workplace procedures to confirm the need for and type of maintenance support required
  • Carry out the assembly, installation, and overhaul of laboratory equipment
  • Assist in meeting the laboratories daily production targets
  • Assist in managing priorities and the monitoring of their progress to ensure timeliness and quality
  • Complete work in a timely manner by following the priorities set, this includes but is not limited to sample preparation, laboratory, and instrumentation duties.

Skills and experience

The position would ideally suit someone with:
  • A post-secondary electrical or electromechanical trade qualification or certificate in mechatronics, electrical, electronic or instrumentation field or proven equivalent experience
  • Relevant industry experience in automation & control systems
  • Valid West Australian Manual Driver's License
  • Knowledge of different types of proximity switches, photocells, level sensors, flow sensors, pressure switches, vacuum switches, and solenoid valves
  • Able to interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings and equipment manuals
  • WA Restricted electrical license or higher is preferred, but not essential
  • Willing to work together with colleagues in a team, and work autonomously
  • Good communication skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter.
