We are currently seeking a Senior Automation Engineer, directly reporting to Instrumentation & Control Systems (ICS) section head to join our ICS Engineering division team based in Rome, Italy.

About the Job

You will work inside the Instrumentation and Control Systems Section, that is responsible for designing Instrumentation, Control, Safety and Monitoring systems of medium, large and complex projects. The role of the Senior Automation Engineer within the ICS section implies developing the assigned tasks independently, with a minimum guidance from the other Seniors in the discipline only for specific topics; work is periodically reviewed by the Automation Leader, to verify the accomplishment of objectives.

The role and your responsibilities include:
  • Preparation of project technical specifications in line with Project/Client requirements;
  • Meet Project quality and HSE objectives;
  • Ensure an appropriate reporting on engineering/requisitioning activities to the Instrumentation Automation Leader;
  • Interface with other discipline engineers and Project support functions such as Procurement, Construction and Planning.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activity of a small group of junior/intermediate engineers.
  • Preparation, update and/or check of Control, Safety and Monitoring Systems Architectures, Diagrams
  • Preparation, update and/or check of IS loop calculations and Fieldbus segment calculations;
  • Preparation and/or Check of Automation HW and SW design documents such as I/O lists, interlock logic and sequences diagrams, graphic displays, Electrical/Instrumentation interface diagrams, Cable Lists, Power Supply distribution diagrams, Control and technical rooms layouts, wiring drawings (traditional and fieldbus).
  • Preparation and/or Check of Automation software configuration database including all HW, SW and communication points, alarms, controllers, trip and ranges, etc.
  • Active participation in the Safety Systems Lifecycle including attendance to HAZOP sessions and Preparation/Check of documentation such as Safety Requirement Specification and SIL validation calculation.
  • Review Control Systems Vendor Bids and prepare Technical Bids Evaluation.
  • Ensures contractual technical specifications are met by the suppliers;
  • Ensure proper communication with Vendors and technical follow up of the orders
  • Review Vendor Drawings.

You will have the opportunity to do business trips to attend to technical meetings with Clients or Suppliers, visit Vendor workshops, move to other Technip Energies operating centers and join our colleagues overseas. Occasionally you will also have the opportunity to follow up engineering activities related to the Instrumentation and Automation discipline directly on our sites, supporting erection, pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up activities.

About You

Wed love to hear from you if your profile meets the following essential requirements:

Qualifications: Master degree in Electronic, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering

Languages: English fluent

Main Skills:
  • Previous experience of at least 3-6 years in detailed engineering and design of Control and Safety systems for Refinery / Gas / Power / Renewables / Infrastructure projects in similar position. In particular it is required a good knowledge of Control, Safety and Monitoring Systems design, fabrication, test installation and commissioning phases.
  • Fully familiar with international codes and standards like IEC, ANSI, ISO, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, CSA, UL, API, etc.
  • Oral/written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively with the design team in the resolution of project related issues, in an international and multi-cultural environment
  • High interest with respect to the current Energy transition challenges and Digital transformation process
  • Availability to international mobility for either short or long term assignment
  • Knowledge of new energy sources, renewables, green/blue hydrogen technologies will be highly appreciated
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel/VBA/Query and Database management is a plus
  • IEC-61508/61511 Functional Safety Engineer Certification released by a qualified entity (e.g. T.U.V.) is a plus.
  • Self-motivated, results oriented and flexible to work well under tight schedules in a fast paced multi-disciplinary team environment
