Candidate Profile

The candidate must possess the following:

Qualification: postgrad university / national higher diploma qualification, preferably in engineering, supply chain management, business administration, commerce, or other relevant disciplines

• CIPS qualification advantageous

• Experience: Extensive purchasing experience (+5 years) in the Oil industry either as a prescriber or buyer of goods and services

• Construction / Engineering category management added advantage

• Tools: Proficient with Microsoft and relevant IT tools. ERP System, preferably SAP

• Competencies: supply chain knowledge, procurement processes, internal stakeholder management, procurement law, monitoring & measure performance, procurement applications, strategic sourcing process, industry & category expertise, category profile analysis, supplier negotiation and management, TCO mindset and modelling, contract management, benefits tracking, analytics, business understanding • Leadership competencies include trust, accountability, teamwork, people management, leadership, change management and communication, integrity and ethics, analytical thinking, conceptual thinking, strategic thinking

• Language: English is the working language

Activities

The candidate will be responsible for the following:

HSSE:

• To effectively manage and minimise HSE risk within area of responsibility by ensuring:

o Compliance with all HSE Policies, rules, guideline and legal requirements

o Promotion of safe working environment and positively contributing to the company HSE KPIs and risk reduction strategies

o That HSE competency requirements are identified & enforced within area of responsibility

Category management:

• To develop overall category vision and strategy through analysing external and internal profiles in line with the established overall Procurement Strategy + TGP Strategy

• To establish category priorities and planning based on benefits opportunities, e.g. concerning Strategic Sourcing timing and supplier management approach

• To challenge internal stakeholder/customer requirements

• To focus on value creation opportunities and total cost of ownership

• To take a strategic and long-term view of procurement in identifying and developing innovative sources and contractual arrangements

• Develop purchasing plans and ensure execution of projects within set timelines. Constant communication with the team members and stakeholders

Strategic sourcing:

• To implement supply chain and TCO reduction opportunities aligned to Total Group Procurement (TGP) strategies

• To maintain and construct the analyses of a deep fact base for purchased commodities

• To develop expertise in the strategic sourcing process

• To lead strategic negotiations and review of all procurement activities by Cat specialists and buyers

• To actively manage the project timelines;

Supplier performance and contract management:

• To be responsible for drafting agreements using the company-prescribed templates and lead in the negotiations of contractual terms with suppliers/contractors.

• To be responsible for implementing longer-term contracts/agreements with suppliers increasing the contract coverage of the category

• Manage contract execution-related queries including contract compliance including monitoring performance and administration of contracts - adherence to contractual terms; expiry of contract; changes in the contracts

• To analyse and report supplier performance metrics and conducts benchmarking studies; develop SPM plans and ensure execution within timelines

Stakeholder management:

• To closely manage the relationship with internal customers and stakeholders, both within the framework of cross-functional category teams but also generally other internal stakeholders with relation to the category

• To ensure collaborative category management and collaborative supplier management

• To proactively organise sessions with internal stakeholders/business to ensure the optimal Total cost of ownership (TCO) for TMSA and to ensure buy-in of initiatives and contract compliance

People Management

• To manage a team, including appraising, motivating, training and developing staff capacity

General:

• To appropriately apply policies and procedures in compliance with the government laws

• To enhance B-BBEE rating through monitoring suppliers and contracting and buying from B-BBEE-accredited suppliers

• To lead Category savings tracking in line with the TMSA / Group tracking approach

• To ensure suppliers adhere to TMSA procurement procedures and principles

• Handle all issues relating to suppliers/contractors including loading of suppliers on the system, updating of supplier details and attending to supplier queries

• Provide support to the implementation of new tools

Context & Environment

The Category Manager is the face of the category and has a seat at the table of business stakeholders

• Manager coach for the team (cross-functional)

• Work closely with TGP Category Manager

• Manage stakeholder relationship (duet, suppliers, N+1)

• Manage technical projects with high complexity
